Has anyone been to Thailand? What did you take? I'm hoping to capture temples, night markets, beach scenes , tight street stuff and some landscapes.

I'm buying a new lens for the trip - I know it needs to cover the 24mm length, and I'm having terrible trouble reconciling over the relative strengths and weaknesses of the following lenses;
24/1.4 v2 - great for the low light environment, has AF, but will introduce perspective distortion in architecture or photographing landscapes from odd positions.
16-35/2.8 v2 - gives me 16mm and 35mm, has AF, bit of a general purpose lens though, not particualrly fast, introduces perspective distortion.
24/3.5 TS v2 - perspective control, stitching gives me a little more width and sharpness is great. Not fast, neither in aperture nor speed of operation (MF).

Tearing my hair out!

I just got back from Vietnam and was using a Sony full frame system. I took a 16-35 f4, 28 f2 and a 35 f 2.8 lens. Never needed anything faster...just increased the ISO.

Personally I'd skip the big heavy fast glass for slower zooms and primes. Carrying the extra weight in then heat and humidity is no fun.

I have only been to Bangkok, and I was shooting with a mirrorless system with a 28mm and 40mm. If I were to do it again, I will bring a ff body (ie. 6d) and a wide angle (1740 or 1635) for general walk around. For close up/candid I would bring a 85 f1.8 or 135 f2.

I'm starting to draw conclusions with this - I think I'm going to grab a 17-40 (they can be had for £300 here) and replace the nifty fifty with the 50/1.2.

How do you like it with 35mm was the longest focal? Was there limitation from what you shot? Do you mind sharing?

I'd be interested in that too.

I've bought a 16-35 f/4 IS now. If funds allow, I'll get a 50/1.2 before October.

Rationale was;
24 TS wasn't weather sealed and felt the length may be too limiting
24 1.4 FL too limiting
16-35/2.8 optically not as good as f/4 version, and I'd have a fast 50 for when it gets dark.

I've got a work trip to Shanghai next week, great opportunity to exercise the lens!

There were times I could have used a longer lens...but not many. Most of my images were 24mm and wider. Or me...it's all about the people and that requires close and intimate iages.

The 70-200 is rather light....lighter than my 24-70 L.
I never leave home without it!!

I've spent two trips to Thailand, the first 6 weeks in the north (Bangkok, Golden Triangle area, northern jungles and all over the place) and the other in Phuket. I didn't like Phuket in comparison to the north!

The 17-40mm is very versatile, inexpensive, sharp and light. It's an excellent lens.

Travel light over there. It's hot and humid and wet. Take some of those fold over water tight hiking bags for the wet/humidity and some good insurance for your gear. Take plenty of lens wipes too - you will need them as you there will be plenty of condensation on your lens for sure.
