I have read many reviews about different lens, but most of them only show samples of landscape, I rarely take landscape pictures so I can't base what I need by that. I would really like to have a zoom lens, but I have read that they are not the best for portraits. I had a 50mm for my canon but I did not care for it at all. Kayla

Its more about the quality of the overall lens. What lens you need will be dictated by your shooting space, price point, Nikkor or 3rd party and if you plan on only using this for portraits or do you want it to do other things as well

Jul 18, 2016 18:20 | #5 Zooms are just fine for portraits. It's all in the lighting. I have the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 and depending on your budget, you can pick this lens up used for around $600. It's a fantastic lens. I also have the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 that I replaced with the Nikon, and that lens served me well. flickr
