It's the end of spawning season for gaspereaux in the Wallace River in Nova Scotia, and with the fish dying off, the bald eagles never had it so easy.

Great series Ian. In shot 6, the one on the left seems to be swallowing it whole, heron style rather than ripping it apart. Is that what happened?

Thanks Keith. Yep, in that instance he did swallow it whole. Most of them tore the fish up first.

Thanks Bob it is definitely a photographers paradise. Sometimes there is too much going on. Tonight after supper I went down to sit beside the river and did not take my camera with me. Of course, directly across the river, an eagle plunged into the water, and grabbed a large fish. He floundered around with it for a while, dragged it to shore, and finally managed to pick it up and carry it away. Ah well it will happen again. :-)
