I don't want to hear the cons for using strobes at baseball. Just looking for people who do it. I like to hear about how it works for you and if you have any tips for lighting.

I have never heard of anybody strobing baseball.

I have to ask, why do you want/need to?

Will they even allow you to strobe baseball. Would sure hate for a player trying to field a ball in the air looking into a strobe going off.

I can't imagine it would be very safe.

I live in Texas and used to shoot highschool sports. I didn't think it was legal to strobe baseball or softball. You could only strobe basketball if you had permission from both coaches if I remember correctly. I got kicked out of a soccer game one time for having my flash on.

For starters I would need the strobes because the games are at night. Next the strobes would not be set up at eye level they will be mounted on the announcers stand or on light poles. I've been given free run to do anything I want. So now back to the original question.

So now back to the original question.

had you provided any sort of relevant information in the OP you wouldn't have had the questions that you seem to think are off track.

typically strobes/flashes require a shutter speed of 1/180-1/250, this will not be enough to stop motion blur created by the ambient light.

So now back to the "off track" questions. What kind of gear are you planning to set up? Do you have a modern camera? Why not just crank up the ISO?

I have AB and white lightening strobes. Yes I have a modern camera. High ISO looks like hell and its usually not enough at the complex I will be shooting at.

ah, i see your gear listed now, apparently the coffee hadn't kicked in before my last post.

a quick google search seems to point to some hacks that can get HSS or "long tail" flash exposures at a high shutter speed with your strobes. I'm not familiar with the process at all.

As I mentioned before, you will need to get the shutter speed up high enough that the ambient light does not cause motion blur - or - you can use so much flash power that any ambient motion blur become almost irrelevant.

with proper exposure I've seen some pretty good stuff out of the 7D at 1600 and 3200. How high have you gone?

I normally shoot rodeos with this equipment. The poor lighting conditions at a rodeo are about the same as the ball park I will be shooting at. No problem with motion blur. The Strobes stop the motion. As for ISO I have run it to the highest it will allow. I think its 3200. Just not happy with the results.

The 7D should go to 6400 I think.

Yes it does. I just never take it that high because I don't care for the results.
