guess i'll have to play around with it more to find the settings
crossing profiles give no issues, its with subjects approaching headon that the af doesnt lockon after the 1st shot(focus+release priority)

read around the interweb and chanced across advise to holding on the af-on button while bursting head-on approaching subjects
seems to have an improvement to 60-70% lock on rate
is there any other way besides holding the af-on?
sorry if i sound noob but holding the shutter button was sufficient for canon systems

the d500 + 50-100 f1.8 combo is so sharp my eyes are bleeding

Hi ! this is my first post on this forum as new member since... 1 hour ! And it is to thank you Eric for these information on AF tracking, I'm having D610 & D7100 (but dreaming D500 that's the reason I'm on this thread) and nearly all time using AF-C mode with single or 9 points (for wildlife) and found so far this mode being the most convenient. So your post confirms me in my choice

Hi guys,... it's been a while since D500 users have been pairing the Sigma Art 18-35 & 50-100 duo up to their cameras. Reported focusing issues have kept me away from getting these two lenses, even with the amazing shots I've seen,... including yours Angela! Still, didn't feel ready to take the risk of getting bad copies, or of getting a copy not benefiting to a Sigma fix.

What's the terrain like now? Has Sigma addressed this issue? A list of serial numbers to stay away from? Firmware updates landed or on the horizon? etc. Last I heard, which was a while ago, fine tuning via the dock was a work-around at best,... not a true fix. Has that changed?

Already pre-ordered the Tamron 70-200 G2,... and wouldn't mind picking this duo while I'm in the mood of buying glass! Thanks!

I hope someone can give you insight into your concerns Eric. Personally I don't really have any major concern concerns, but then again I don't think I know enough nuances about gear to give a comprehensive analysis.

OMG,... those are some beautiful shots Angela,... as usual. Maybe all the issues have been resolved by now. I need to look up some recent reviews on the topic and lenses. I did read in one of your earlier posts here, that you had to resort to manual focus at one point,... are you still using manual focus over AF? What about your experiences using AF points other than the center point,... particularly those closest to the edge of the D500's focus area? I'll sit down and check around tonight to see if all the 'front focus' and 'back focus' chatter has died down. Thanks for your response!

Here's a selfie I did from yesterday. I used the bottom of the piano bench to focus the camera and a higher aperture than what I normally use. Seems to have worked fine, with only a couple that ended up not focused correctly out of an hour long shoot.

BTW I had a hairlight but had technical difficulties with it.

Beautiful shots! You're a musician too,... so am I. I did a couple selfies too when I first got my new lights,... just playin' around and experimenting the night I got them. Here's two of them. I used the ball head on my BeFree tripod to focus,... just sat it on the sofa and put the ball head where I thought my big head was gonna end up. LOL!

Still on the fence tho,... but not for the original reasons tho. I'm pretty much ok with not letting all the front and back focusing chatter scare me away from the Sigma. And since the D500 is NOT one of those entry crop bodies where a move to a FF censor would seem to be the logical upgrade,... I'll probably be with my D500 full up until the D510 is introduced. And that will more than likely be my upgrade path,... so an investment into pro-level DX glass is not a silly venture for me. Now,... I'm undecided whether to sell the 70-200 VR II and get the new Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 G2, or sell my 24-70 G and get the Sigma 18-35mm-50-100mm f/1.8 bundle. Last I looked, that bundle saves a little over a 100 bucks.

Im a fellow nikon user as you can see in my sig, also a musician keyboards/synths mainly but have dabbled in Bass and a bit of Tennor and Alto Sax, but due to the noise equation at home and a scared dog due to the noise from them, I had to give up learning the sax - Im still using and recording with my keyboard/synth though.
With the lens situation I persoanly would stick with the nikon 70-200 as it is quite a bit sharper and focuses faster than the Tammy I understand.

Yeah I don't know if I'd be selling the VR2 for the Tamron unless the focus breathing at MFD was an issue for you.
