So, there's a new AlienBee product. What do you guys think? To me this does not seem like a huge leap forward especially compared to what the other brands are doing.

AlienBees DigiBee Self-Contained Studio Flash Units: America's favorite flash units are back - now brighter and packed with even more features! We're thrilled to present the powerful, digitally-controlled DigiBees flash units, available in two output models and four bold, matte colors. The DigiBees offer speed, accuracy, and consistency in our most compact design, increasing versatility with the addition of a high intensity LED modeling lamp.

I just saw it. Looks nice small light. I still have some AB800 and AB400s and AB400s are quite useful IMHO. Now if they have consistent power like Einsteins and 1/10 stop adjustment, I think that is nice. Other brands are still doing HSS hack IMHO except one or two which seems true HSS (unless I missed).

I like the compact size, LED modeling lamp and the ability to control with the Cyber Commander. If I were to get some Bees they would be these.

Yes, this is the deal. Inexpensive lights fully controllable by the Cyber Commander. If you're not using the Cyber Commander, you don't yet know what "Oo-De-Lally, Oo-De-Lally, Golly, What a Day!" means. Having full Cyber Commander control of a group of battery-powered studio electronic flash out on location is practically orgasmic. Right now, CC Bee control is kind of a workaround.

This is by far the least expensive way to gain that power, and going to LED modeling lighting with high color accuracy is an extra bonus, particularly for us who do both video and stills on location. Right now I haul around a set of similar separate LED canister-format lights.

I could switch from still to video without changing out lights. Going from flash to LED, I would not have to change the light balance. I'd make the exposure adjustment remotely through the Cyber Commander, two clicks to change from a "still" setup to a "video" setup and vice versa.
