It states in the article that he was backlit by the sun.

It's not dark. He's standing in full sunlight. The sky is black because there's no atmosphere to scatter the light.

How was this picture taken?

It was taken in a studio. Those special effects guys were very good.

Gerry Anderson created all the luna surface images/astronauts walking about, using puppets. He was hired by NASA in secret after his earlier work creating Thunderbirds.

it's pretty common knowledge that Stanley Kubrick was hired to produce the video and photos by the Shadow Government at the behest of our Underground Reptilian Overlords.

Moon landing deniers use these photos as "proof", because "where are the stars?". They don't have the brainpower to understand the exposure range of a scene like that, even if you ask "why can't you see the stars during the day here on Earth"?

I've heard NASA is going to use the same set for the Mars landing hoax. They plan to mix some red pepper powder with the talc powder they used for the moon scene until they get just the right red glow. They will use some grey-red smoke to simulate the atmosphere.

Will O.J. Simpson be out of prison in time for the remake of "Capricorn One"?

Back on the photography topic (and away from the conspiracy humor), note the halo around Aldrin's shadow. It's called coherent backscatter and you also see that in shooting backlit scenes of grass, sand, etc. on earth. Phase angle leads to some interesting effects; for example, the full moon is noticeably brighter than would be expected compared to a partially illuminated moon due to the zero phase angle and backscatter effects.
