It has taken a while for my kingfishers to materialize this year, but they are about in full force now. There were at least three down by our channel this morning. And my blind once again paid off with full-frame shots at close range. I love these guys.

Super shots, Allan. I'd say the blind definitely paid off. :)

Wow, very nice! Your post is an indirect advertisement to use a blind.

Thank you all very much for your kind comments; I appreciate your taking the time. Outside of a fluke encounter, I don't know how one would ever get close to these guys without a blind. My advice is, if there are kingfishers around, put a dead snag out in the water a ways out from your blind. They can't resist perching there while on the hunt.

Super shots Al, the first one has the most unique angle I've seen, she must be listening to you hear beat :)

Well done Al, you got some nice keepers there. No luck here yet this year, they seem more finicky, even when in my "mobile blind". I wired a branch onto an iron railing they used to land on, and they do prefer the natural feel of the branch, or so they have told me :) .

Thank you, Ian; I appreciate your commenting. The funny thing is with kingfishers is that, despite how difficult they are to approach, once in my blind they don't seem wary of the shutter clicking away just 25 feet away.
