If you were shooting an event at high ISO 3200 +...which body would you shoot with if needed optimum performance? Anyone ever compare the two themselves?

They are very close in regards to ISO, but the 1D4 at least has the edge everywhere else. In some cases, high ISO is better too, when you have to push exposure after the fact.

At 3200, you are not pushing the camera very hard. Either will do just fine. I used crop sensors (60D, 70D) at 6400 with very few problems. Nail WB and a bit of ETTR and you're good.
