If you were shooting an event at high ISO 3200 +...which body would you shoot with if needed optimum performance? Anyone ever compare the two themselves?

Either will do just fine. I used crop sensors (60D, 70D) at 6400 with very few problems. Nail WB and a bit of ETTR and you're good.
