Black-backed Woodpeckers

I checked the Black-backed Woodpecker nest last Friday and again this morning and both times found the male feeding young. The young peaking out of the cavity were both males, but I could tell they were different birds, one day to the next, by the amount of yellow on their heads. I have not seen the female around since much earlier in the spring. They are due to fledge by the end of the month. This was probably my last visit with them and it's a bit sad since I've been tracking them for four months.

So cute Al! Maybe things will change and you will get another opportunity to photograph these beautiful Woodpeckers. I still look up at the empty Pileated Woodpecker nesting tree every time I walk by it!

Thank you all very much for commenting; I appreciate it. It's not that I couldn't go back down again to photograph them, as it's only about 40 minutes away, but I don't think I'd get any photos different from what I already have gotten. They sure have been fun though. I went from having one poor photo of a BBWP in early March to now having scores of photos of them.
