Selling my much loved Canon 300mm F4, it was my very first L lens. I need cash for a car! Lens is 8 1/2 to 9 condition only because attached hood which rotates to upright position and stays put but when down whatever kept it in place no longer works so hood will slip if camera is tilted, I just kept it extended. . Lens has been kept in a padded case when not in use. Normal wear & tear on body for a lens this age. Missing front cap but it has a Hoya uv filter attached & has been kept in the case when not in use. Comes with back cap, tripod collar, uv filter & case. This is a manual lens on camera but you can tape 3 pins & it will become auto. Also when focusing, if it hunts it makes a slight noise but never affected performance. This is a great lens & I wouldn't be parting with it but need cash! $625.00 plus $40.00 insured shippingl. Paypal only. Thanks for looking!

What you mean by "This is a manual lens on camera but you can tape 3 pins & it will become auto." I thought 300mm f4 non IS was an auto focussing lens.

The 300mm f/4 non-IS Canon lens IS an auto-focus lens. The photo above shows the AF/MF switch in the AF position. OP, please explain.

Hi Tom, this is an older lens that does not autofocus on the new EOS cameras. it only works in manual, even with the AF switch on. If you tape 3 pins on the inner lens with black electrical tape, you can then have autofocus.

How much older, you know the date code? I know there is 300mm f4 IS and then there is older 300mm f4 non IS. But that non IS is AF lens. I know for sure. And your picture looks like it is the 300mm f4 AF lens to me. And I don't understand how taping pins can give you AF if the lens is MF lens.

I am just trying to help for sale.

All EF lenses AF on all modern Canon cameras . Either you are confused or the lens is broken. Neither of those help your sale.

I cannot find any of the articles now on this lens as it came out 1991-1997. These lens never autofocused on the new EOS cameras. I am not confused nor is the lens broken so please give me a break! It was well know years ago that to auto focus this lens, you taped 3 pins with electrical tape, the end that connects to camera has a set of pins, you tape the first 3 & it will autofocus!

I had the lense and never had any issue with any bodies. I think you need to send it to a repair shop before selling.

You most certainly ARE confused. The "EF" in the name of the lens stands for "ELECTRONIC FOCUS". This line of lenses was designed specifically for the "EOS" line of cameras. This appears to be news to you, but ALL EF LENSES WILL AUTOFOCUS ON ANY EOS BODY. If your lens does not autofocus on your camera, something is wrong with one of them. Discovering the problem, and either fixing it or disclosing it, before selling may help your sale. My guess is that nobody will be interested in a lens that MAY be broken, especially if the seller refuses to acknowledge that fact.
