What is everyone's best places to shoot local youth baseball from. Also if you could do almost anything to the field or fencing what would you do.
I'm looking into putting in shooting ports in the backstop. I really hate shooting though chain link fence. These would only be available to me. I've also heard some complexes have areas just inside the fence on the 1st and 3rd baseline chalk lined out just for a photographer.

The idea that you will have those "shooting ports" available to you may be a bit tricky, unless you have something specifically set up with the league officials. Shooting from there is great for very specific photos but very limited for catching game action that is moving right to left and vice versa. Consider shooting from this position maybe only to get pitchers from both teams in action.

A good mix is getting at least 2 innings from 3rd base side, 1st base side and work in the backstop shots along with whatever you feel you may be lacking in the other 2 innings, assuming youth sports is 6-Inning Little League games. Often times, photographers are only allowed inside the fence, back behind 1st & 3rd, if they're credentialed press. Little League Rule Book states that only members of the press may be allowed inside the fence during official play, but this may be another arrangement you can make with your league's officials.

Here are two examples of what I look for from behind the backstop. I shoot through the fence with a 70-200 vII and just place my hood up against the chainlink.

As of right now I have the go ahead to do almost anything I want at the fields from the league. Yes it it is Little League. As for the ports I'd like to put in 3 on the backstop. One center then one right and left sides. Those are places I shoot from now. I just don't like shooting though the chain-link fence I think I could get better shots of the infield if I had more lens movement. I also will be shooting from 1st and 3rd baseline like I do now.

I've been playing with the frozen ball stuff but not great results yet.
