New Jersey Motorsports Park

Wondering how many of you may have shot at NJMP. Thinking about heading to the final MotoAmerica races there in September and would like tobe able to take my gear and get some good photos.

Are there areas where you can get a good view in some corners over a fence? I have a 1Dx and a Singma 150-600 along with a Canon 70-200 2.8. Was thinking about doing an evaluation loan on the Canon 300/2.8 but not sure.

Would be cool to be credentialed, but I don't have enough experience shooting motorsports. (IMHO)

Without credentials the fences at NJMP are just high enough to be a problem for anyone under (guessing a little) 6' tall. There are folding plastic step stools available for a few dollars at Walmart or any other housewares or hardware type place and one of those really comes in handy. Sometimes even inside the fences at some tracks a step or two is all you need for a much better perspective.

Awesome suggestion! I hadn't thought of a stool, though I am 6' and close to 290. I spoke with Mike (DWimages) the other day and he gave me some tips to try and get credentials. Could help that I will be at an Indycar and NASCAR Infinity race in the next few weeks. Lots to work on between now and then for sure. hoping everything works out.

NJMP isn't terribly hard to get creds unlike some other tracks.

You say it "would be cool to be credentialed, but I don't have enough experience shooting motorsports". The normal criteria for getting a credential is not how much experience you have, but instead is whether you have a legitimate media outlet or other suitable entity (such as a participating team, driver, sponsor, etc.) that will provide you with a letter of assignment. If you get a letter of assignment from a media outlet or participant willing to apply for your credential then you'll likely get the credential. Of course, your lack of experience may factor into whether a media outlet or participant is willing to seek a credential on your behalf...

You should be able to get good shots from spectator areas. I've never had problems shooting over the fence (I'm shorter than you) but a stool would be a good idea.

End of main straight from the stands. I usually go to SCCA and vintage race cars. Lot's of good access all around the track. Take a lunch and drinks and have at it. On the big track I usually park near the front stretch and walk around. On the small track I just back my truck up to the fence and shoot from the bed. Chris
