New to video and audio

Normally I use rodeo mic pro shotgun.. and I'm satisfied with it so far .. I can get decent audio with some adjustments ..these are mostly sit down videos indoors.. so I use mic off camera. Plus some nois3 reduction it comes outo pretty clean

However we wanted to record some video which will be outdoors.. walking about , indoors back outdoors ..etc..
I was thinking perhaps a lavalier mic to an zoom h1 recorder for my gf.. she'd be the one being on video mostly .. and another lavalier mic directly to camera for me (camera man)(There Will Be Conversation Between Us Two through out, that why the camera man ne3ds mic.) .maybe this would give me cleaner audio then a shotgun?..
Any advice appreciated ..

In order, my choices are...
1. A hard wired lav
2. A radio lav
3. A hand held mic
4. A shotgun held out of frame by a sound guy
5. A shotgun on the camera
6. An omni on the camera.

I haven't tried this, but it may be worthwhile:

In terms of basic microphone choice, PhotosGuy's order of preference is mine as well.

You're talking about making multiple audio recordings and, I presume, syncing them with the video in post production. That's fine, and your setup will probably give you the best quality without going to radio mics. Be careful to note that lavaliere mics are very subject to subject movement--you can check YouTube or Google for the various tricks to prevent that.

I'm presuming your own lav is to be recorded to the camera. In that case, you'll have to be sure to include a matching audio/video sync like a clapper (or clapping hands) to be sure a clear sync point gets recorded on both. Otherwise, the two lavs might not capture clear enough common audio to sync them easily.

So in practice, first turn on her recorder and make sure it's working properly. Then start the camera. Video her clapping her hands smartly (a couple of times). Your voice will of course already be synced with the camera video. At the end, turn off the camera first, then her recorder.

Thanks for the input fellas..
Yes after posting I started to think what if lav mics don't pick each other up enough to sync easily..what a pita it would be , especially as it won't b3 one long recording but multiple segments each one ranging in length from a minute to 10 minut3s ...

I downloaded the app from the above posted video,, recforge..going to mess around with that..and see how w3ll it cleans up and syncs. (Still at work now)

If it's decent enough, I will purchase one zoom h1 and a decent lav for her and for me ill use the phone with another lavalier.. (it's more important that her audio is of better quality) that way I can use the cameras audio for synching proposes..if my phone setup doesn't cut it I'll just get a pair of zoom h1 and do it right ,,, anyway eventually I was going to get them, just was kinda hoping to ke3p it low budget as possible for now as I was also hoping to get a small external monitor that will allow focus peakiny so that I can focus better and use the 5d3 instead of t4i video auto focus.. but thats another thread ..

Anyway I have till end of Monday (Tuesday is shoot day)to figure it all out ..
Again , thanks for the advise

I find the Rode Smartlav+ and a smartphone is a low profile solution that give decent results.

But a portable recorder would give better results, of course. There is also the new Darling recorder from Juicedlink (which i can't seem to get shipped to Canada for some reason!).
