I would like to try a metal print in an 11x14 inch size and am looking for suggestions as to where to have it done.
Your input is appreciated.

Any of the big printing companies will do a good job...providing your soft-proofing is up to snuff.

.

I have started using AdaromaPix and they've done a great job with the few dozen metal prints I've had them do over the past 3 months. The reason I have been using them is price. As Chauncey said, pretty much any of the big companies will do a good job on the print, yet some of the big companies charge significantly more for what really is the same thing. At least for smaller sizes like the 11x14 you want, AdaromaPix will pretty much do the same exact job that anyone else would do. If you were wanting a bigger print, like, in the 3 foot range, then WHCC or Bay Photo may be a better choice because they offer acrylic backing on the prints, which AdoramaPix does not offer. But for an 11 by 14 I don't see the need/benefit of having an acrylic back on the metal.

Here are the current prices for metal prints at AdaromaPix. They are frequently offering "25% anything" sales, so if you wait a bit for a sale to come along you can get any of these prints for 25% less. And the shipping is always free - at least with my orders it's been free - there may be a minimum order amount to qualify for free shipping, but if there is it isn't high, as I have placed orders for as little as $60 and still gotten free shipping. Just be sure to sign up to receive the emails that tell you whenever there is a special deal going on like the "25% anything" coupons.

I have used Aspen Creek Photo, MPIX and Adorama Pix. Adorama has outperformed the others.

To partially hi-jack the thread...assuming that you print @ 300 ppi, what is the largest that you guys have printed?
If you're curious about 300 ppi...I photomerge a lot.

I don't print at 300DPI. Well, that is, I don't unless I am printing small and the native resolution of the file happens to be 300DPI or more.
But, I have printed files that are 4896 pixels wide at 48 inches for a 48 by 32 inch print at roughly 100DPI. Those were metal prints ordered from from Fine Art America. My clients have been quite happy with the results.

I've had good luck with H&H and WHCC.

Whatever you decide, do a small test print first.

If you select the print type that is over the brushed metal without a white base coat, you'll be starting with about a 10% gray base layer instead of a pure white base layer, so you may need to adjust the brightness of your midtones.

This type of print will look very different based on the lighting, too. If you're going to display it in a place where it gets plenty of light, or give it its own little spotlight, then you may not need to adjust anything.

Good tip Nathan. I had a brushed metal print made at AdoramaPix last year and was not quite happy with the results at first. It is quite monochrome... now I actually love it though. I'd like to do more of this style but with B&W images.

No, I don't. Sorry.

Next time I order a metal print from them I will really check the packing slip and the packaging itself, as well as the address from which it is snet to me. Maybe there will be a good clue there.

Adorama Pix has these metal options...

Selecting high-gloss or satin finish metal prints offers incredible color saturation and contrast with stunning depth and detail with your choice of a glass-like finish or satiny, low-glare finish.

I have not made a metal print before, but I have the audacity to believe some of my aviation photos are worthy to be printed. ;-)a

Any comments on the choice of glass-like finish or satiny low-glare?

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.
