I am trying to figure out how to trigger a 2nd Speedlite off camera.

This is the kit I have avaliable to me at the moment:

- 580EX II x 1
- 430EX x 1
- Off Camera ETTL Cord for Canon (http://flashzebra.com/products/0123/index.shtml (external link)) x 1
- CyberSync™ Receiver - CSRB x 1
- CyberSync Trigger Transmitter CST x 1

All flashes in Manual.

Would this work?

Canon 5DM3 --> Off Camera ETTL Cord / CyberSync CST--> 580EXII (FLASH 1)

CyberSync CSRB --> 430EX II (FLASH 2)

Thanks.

Can you use the built in infrared triggers ?
Cant remember if it works in manual mode or not (the 580ex2 will work as a master on the ettl cord)

No, at least, not if I understand you correctly. Using the Cybersync system, each remote flash needs its own receiver.

As Echo63 says, you can use Canon Wireless Light/IR type - does the smart ETTL cord get the first Speedlite far enough off-cam? That offers either ETTL or remotely adjusted M flash.

Or, you can extend the chain by putting the Cybersync link between smart hot-shoe (camera or cord) - and - 5xxEx Speedlite set as optical 'Master'. Even with quick cybersyncs, you will lose maybe 2 clicks off max sync speed - and strictly M on the master, meaning that the slave will be M too (irrespective of whether its on-screen 'M' blinks at you or not).

Usually better to jusy buy an extra Cybersync Rx even if it needs a Speedlite type pc-to-hotshoe adaptor to hook it up. Cheers

Will the cybersync transmitter fire from a PC Socket ? (And does your camera have one ?)
You could fire the 580EX from the ettl lead in the hotshoe, and the 430 via cybersync from the PC socket

Would this work?

Canon 5DM3 --> Off Camera ETTL Cord / CyberSync CST--> 580EXII (FLASH 1)

CyberSync CSRB --> 430EX II (FLASH 2)

Thanks for the input.

I ended up doing this:

- Canon 5DM3 --> CyberSync CST--> 580EXII (MASTER) (FLASH 1)
- CyberSync CSRB --> 430EX II (SLAVE) (FLASH 2)

Works well but CAUTION when using a light meter taking readings, as it will meter the 'pre flash/IR communication (from MASTER to SLAVE)' and not the main flash.

If using a light meter do this:

- Canon 5DM3 --> CyberSync CST--> 580EXII (MANUAL) (FLASH 1)
- 430EX II (with Optical Slave from https://flashzebra.com/opticalslaves/index.shtml (external link)) (MANUAL) (FLASH 2)

How did you connect the Cybersync CST to the 580EX?

Seems like both of your setups are using optical triggering. Why not just set up the 580EX as manual master, 430 to ETTL slave. Then you can set manual power for both flashes from the master 580EX?
