That's a nice image! It's amazing how bright the ISS is. NASA has an image showing the ISS compared to the size of a football field (you can see it on this page: http://www.nasa.gov …ation/overview/​index.html (external link) ) -- so those solar panels reflect quite a bit of light as long as the ISS isn't hiding in the Earth's shadow (it'll appear to just "vanish" as you watch it pass into the Earth's shadow).

I was doing an astronomy outreach at a local science museum (they were doing the "World Space Party" event (aka "Yuri's Night") -- and it turned out to be an amazing night for it. Jupiter (on that particular night) had a triple transit of the Galilean moons (and their shadows) and we had a great ISS pass (actually I think we got a second pass later in the night but it was much lower to the horizon - not as dramatic as the first pass which was very high in the sky). Most people had never seen an ISS pass before.
