I finally stepped up and subscribed to LR after using basic apple iPhoto to process RAWs for years. Just scratching the surface, but, wow.

No initial adjustments, just straight HDR merge in LR

good attempt I want to attempt like you for the HDR photo
actually both environments are quite difficult situation for HDR
but 1st foreground is good

Thanks. Only the first is HDR, which is a merge of 4 shots. I may run the same set through HDR Efex to see the difference. That said I'm pretty happy with it considering it was a first attempt.

The second is a single shot just playing around with exposure and saturation in LR. In the original RAW, the beach is blacked out.
