.

I came across this online article today, and thought it might be of interest to some of you:

http://www.alamy.com …i=2SWW,9YAU,12J9UX,XXIC,1 (external link)

The article consists mostly of conjecture about what changes there will be in photography due to future technology. Some of the ideas discussed and some of the questions explored are:

- Will you even need to be ‘there’ in the future?

- No more cameras . . . . . . . . . . visuals will be taken by our brains . . . . . . . .

- Will it be all about manipulation?

- . . . . it could take a lot of the fun, the challenge and the skill and craft away from photography

- How will we licence imagery in this brave new world?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on any of the things discussed in the article. And of course, if you think of anything that isn't in the article, I'd love to hear your ideas!

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I don't need the gear I have now. I still enjoy playing with it. I don't see technology changing that very much.

There are some far fetched but also some very realistic development in this article. But I am also missing a few.
E.g. Static pictures will move towards more interactive and be more alive. Tap on the picture and it tells you who the person is or where the building is or what kind of animal it is. Google and facebook are working hard on this technology. And picture will become more alive - think of 'Harry Potter' merges with 3D and VR.
Additionally, I believe that it will be easier and easier to make high quality pictures with crappy cell phone cameras. 99% of the touristic pictures are already taken in high quality - so if you take a crappy picture of your wife standing in front of Niagara Fall then a software just replaces the background with a high quality shot from the cloud and patches the face of your wife with a better picture and voila.....

My future remains with film, at least as long as film's availability continues into the future. Fortunately, I'm already in my 50's, so I just need it to be accessible (and relatively affordable) for a few more decades.

No amount of "future" will quell my love of prints; meaning that unless embedded with some type of microscopic electronics, I don't need, nor particularly want, my photographs to be interactive other than that involving the connection created by the photo itself.

I certainly don’t want my camera telling me where to step…might as well just have a robotically propelled camera that travels out on its own. Could be great for reportage and such, but not for me.

Still, it will be interesting to see (in all fields) what technology kicks out in the next couple of decades.

Edited: I spelt 'quell' as 'quail,' apparently a subconscious reference to my Nebraska huntin' days...don't worry, the birds were safe.

If you person with real life it means you might have your own place where walls are empty and where you want to put some pictures.
Taken by yourself or else.
While the author of the article is overwhelmed with playing of pockemon, this article isn't entirely childish talk.
My wife wants certain pictures, which I see no merits to have at house walls. She likes it as decorations, I like it as the images with the content. And if mind zapping projector will be build... Imagine this, she will see what she wants, I'll see what I'm pleased with and somewhere on the wall where is guests mode switch. :-P
