The next step would be to capture them in flight.
What I'd really like to try is air-to-air, unfortunately my pilot friends are spread too far apart (different continents) and I don't have enough brain capacity or enough hands to fly a plane in formation while taking photos. Also, since we're all private pilots without any formal formation training when we do fly together we're in a very loose "formation". My 24-105 may be long enough for those shots, but I'd much rather have the 70-200 I've been dreaming of.

For what it's worth, I've never been in an open gyroplane like that (or an SR-22), but the RAF-2000 I did get a chance to fly was one of my top two experiences in aviation. They're awesome aircraft with a fascinating history. If you ever get a chance to ride in (or fly) one, I can't recommend it highly enough.
