First Attempt at Focus Stacking--Bug ID Please

This is my very first attempt at focus stacking. I don't have a focus rail, just my 100mm F/2.8 USM on my 70D and Tripod. This shot is far from being great, and barely fits the decent standard. I'm posting it primarily because I'd like to know just what the heck this bug is? I found it laying dead on my sidewalk leading to my garage. By the looks of it, it probably was one mean vicious insect, that could inflict serious pain.

The image is the result of 8 shots stacked using the trial version of Zerene. I will say it is harder than one thinks to get the crystal clear, crisp stacks seen on here.

I need more practice at this. Wife is home now, and really didn't appreciate this cricket on the kitchen table. ;-)a:-P So I need to find another area to shoot.
