I’ve never done it quite like this before. I’ve ordered a7rii and metabones adapter. Selling my 5dmk3 and preparing for my adventure! New equipment arriving Friday evening.

Where are you getting the gear from? I see it back ordered in Amazon and B&H.

Near perfect timing on your Canon sale.

Could you post any thoughts now that you've had the A7R II for about a month?

I'd really love to hear how the metabones with your canon lenses is working for you too.

So far, so good! I must say that I am impressed by the dynamic range and what I can recover from underexposed areas. The higher resolution has been a plus. I try to get shot “right” out of the camera, but with the higher pixel count, I appreciate the ability to do some cropping while still coming out with a nice product. As far as the metabones with my canon mount lenses: I only have one canon mount lens left. I sold the others and opted for native sony lenses...too much focus hunting for me. Pretty much what you read on this subject is spot on- seems I got a lot of hunting at longer focal lengths. I’m holding out selling of my Tamron 70-200 just to see if metabones comes out with another firmware update that might improve upon this. I can’t complain at all about the results I get from the sony native lenses! I bought a used Sony 85mm 1.4 GM- Wow! I also bought a sony 28/2, 55 1.8, and a samyang 14mm. Hope this helps.

I've just make the transition, or in this case addition as I'm not selling the 6D.

Lens compatibility with MB adapter:
17-40, 70-200 f4 IS, 85 1.8, 100-400IS I, 24-105 all function well. There is some hunting in low light but mostly negligible.
100 f2.8 macro - more hunting, especially in macro distance, with bad light. will need to check it in better light.

IBIS - works like a charm on canon non-IS lenses, as well as samyang manual lenses - shot at 1/30 with samyang 135mm f2.0

resolution, sharpness, all excellent.

MIGHT get one sony lens, most likely either 16-35 or 24-70 as the walk-around lens.

Thank you guys for the responses!

So it sounds like both of you have differing experience with the metabones adapter.

More recently I have been shooting at 200mm 2.8 (with the canon 70-200), so it sounds like i might have trouble with that? :\

Oh and JacobL, does IBIS not work with canon IS lenses? Or you just mean it's less of a big deal because of the IS built into the lens?

I'd really like to make the switch to the A7R II, I'm just trying to convince myself that shooting canon glass with the metabones adapter will be no problem

At 200mm if the camera is really defocused it will struggle to find the subject...if the subject is relatively in focus it will focus fine. The work-around is to manually pre-focus the lens if you're moving from extreme end of the focal range to the other. It's not as bad as it sounds...you only need to pre-focus to a certain range so its quick turn of the focus ring.
