I just bought a 580ex. I am trying to power it with a quantum turbo. The flash works fine with the AA batteries, but when I take them out and plug in the turbo I get no power. Any suggestions?

Canon markIIn - Nikon D3 and a bunch of other crap I probably dont need but think I do.

Yes. Keep the AA batteries in. The 580EX won't work without them, even if you have an external battery source attached for the flash. The AA's are used to power the electronics of the flash.
