Well, I took just over 300 30 second exposures and found 2 meteors in all that. Disappointed, to say the least. Then again, that always seems to be the case for meteor showers.

18mm kit lens just doesn't cut it. I shot at ISO 1000, which was pretty noisy, too. Clouds were a big problem through a good portion of the night.

The first shot would've been decent if the meteor hadn't gone out of the frame. MW is somewhat visible, which is surprising for the amount of light pollution.

The second shot is cropped and has M31 just visible in the upper left.

Thanks. I bit my lip several times when I saw a nice meteor zip through my frame while the camera was in between exposures.

I shot at Joshua Tree NP last night. I too was disappointed in the number of meteors I saw but it was a beautiful night to stare at the stars. I took about 750 photos using two cameras over 3 hours from midnight to 3am. I can't believe how many airplanes are flying at that time. I guess all those Amazon packages need to get around somehow. Here's what I got.

Well, with the weather cloudy and rainy, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. Set out anyhow. Went four wheeling up to a little place called Jenny Lake. Just shy of 11,000 feet. A couple of hours four wheeling each way - in the dark.

I was rewarded with skies that cleared by midnight, just in time for the moon to set and have beautiful clear skies.

What I hadn't planned on was dew. Most of my images were smeary blobs. What a drag.

The best fireball shot is a mess.

Oh well.

Managed to salvage this one.

Taken from Moosehorn Lake in the Uinta Mountains of Utah. Altogether about 125 shots went into making this one shot with my Nikon D600 and Rokinon 24mm f1.4 lens on my Star Adventurer Tracking Mount as well as my Nikon D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 lens on my iOptron Skytracker mount.

Not hard, I purposefully set the the Tokina to 16mm on my D7000 so the effective focal length was 24mm, same as the Rokinon. Then I just scaled the images to the same dimensions in post, worked out pretty well. The hardest part was properly blending all the meteors, when I first started shooting the moon was still up, which meant the color balance and exposure levels for those shots was way different compared to shots taken later in the night. Plus the airglow got really strong which made blending tricky as well.

My first time ever shooting the night sky. Was a bit disappointed with the meteor shower actually, but the aurora came out for a few minutes, so that was cool.

Here are a few I managed that had a meteor or two in em.

Nice, beautiful auroras, is that a blue aurora? I've never seen blue before, just green, red, and purple/pink.
