I was looking for photography books and dvd's on my local library's website. I happened to notice that they provide *FREE* access to Lynda.com. (It doesn't include the mobile app.) I log in thru the libary using my library member number and password. There's over 600 items in the Photography category. Just wanted to pass that along as a possible resource for others.

I think I remember someone bring that up in the Forum forum as they thought it was a bug.

If the post is short then location doesn't show

But if there's several lines I think it will appear.

Which is why I'm putting sentences in separate lines.

At any rate, I'm in Lincoln Nebraska.

Okay, cool!

I'm just requesting that if you post something (or a photo) "specific" to yout locale, it would help if you'd inform us!

Hey, I could blather about going to my local library, packing my laptop computer and getting free internet access, but that might not help you in your home town! :)

Tony - this was intended to be more of a suggestion saying members interested in online tutorials should check out the resources available at their local library. I see that nearby Omaha has access to both Lynda.com and Gale Resources which are instructor led online courses that last six weeks with sessions starting in the next couple of days.

I'm in the south east of South Australia and our local library also offers free access to Lynda.com
I can also get access to MANY magazines (like a couple of hundred in a wide range of genres) via "zinio"

From the "Land Down Under" ... South Australia

Nope. Not on long threads either (which was also posted in that thread). No location in the sig of your long post. As I stated in that other thread, I'm getting no locations for any poster in this entire thread except for my own. It's a bug.

Either way, a huge heads-up post. I'll check out my local library. I've looked at and wanted Lynda for years, I have just been unwilling to pay for it.

Here is more info:

https://www.google.com/#q=lynda.com+local+library (external link)

Edit:

Oh, my. Expensive. Libraries have to pay for it. $4,500 per year for a small library, into five figures for a large. So if it ain't in your local libarary's budget, it's not available. You'll have to check.

Picture North Carolina,

What about my location? Does it show up here in this thread?

Your location shows up just fine for me.

I also see Tony's location just fine here. How about you? Can you see Tony's location here in this thread now?

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Guys, there are probably quite a few variables that go into whether the forum software shows someone's location. Screen size, font size, length of the post etc.

If you ever want to check, you can just click the user's full profile to see if they share that info.

Fwiw Sue, the fact that you were bringing this up so that others might check their local library was not lost on me, and I'm delerious from a high temp and respiratory infection. :D

Yes, you. Yes, me (but not in one post). No location for Tony or anybody else

We are deviating from the OP. Apologies to the OP.

I checked, not available in my local lib (Greensboro, NC / Guilford county). Nearest I could find was Charlotte, NC. I am in the process of determining if I can get a Charlotte library card without being a resident. I'm thinking no.

A shame. But I understand. $4,500 per year even for a small library is too expensive. Nowadays - in tight times - it's just not in budgets. I would think it would be better were Lynda.com to offer discounts to individuals who sign up through, access thru their local lib. It wouldn't cost the library a cent. It would encourage people to get a library card and hopefully access other resources, and Lynda.com would get another subscriber, albeit discounted. A win-win for all.

But $4,500? And even into five digits $$ ? Yep, too much.
