Under LENS CORRECTIONS, default is nothing checked. I have to check ENABLE PROFILE CORRECTIONS every time. When I do that, under LENS PROFILE, NONE is always selected. If I select CANON, and haven't used a profile ON THIS PHOTO before, it just defaults to the top of the list (15mm FE, IIRC). I've never owned or shot that lens.

Effectively, if I want to use profile corrections, I have to select the lens MANUALLY every time. DXO does it automatically, and it matches the profile to the lens and body with no input from me. Open photo, and done, in Optics Pro.

I have used LR for years and I never touch Lens Corrections. My lens corrections not only applies when I click on lens corrections but also during import so LR does it automatically as well. If you prefer not to take a few steps to set it up then you need to use what works for you.

If you select Default in the lens corrections and check the box (may as well do CA as well), do not select ISO or Camera Serial number in the preferences and Update to Current Settings in the Default Develop Settings window it will always auto apply during import.

Do what a few times? I've been using LR for almost 10 years. AFAIK, its always been like this. Want profiles, manually select your lens. From where I sit, the default is NONE, and not alterable.

I think you should use DXO.

I'm aware of Auto but I think here or on another site someone suggested Default as it was better. That was a long time ago so I can't remember the details. Thanks for the link.

This is in my bookmarks. I came across this again when I was exploring this site several months ago.

For years I've had a vague longing to have lens corrections done automatically by LR. I mean, if lens corrections are available, why not always apply them? They are helpful and don't do any harm. So they should always be applied.

But in the Import dialog, there are just a bunch of inscrutable choices that don't seem to address auto lens corrections. Doing it manually is not that difficult, so that is what I have been doing.

From the link above, it seems that you need to create a preset first to enable lens corrections. So (it seems) it is not simply checking an option - as perhaps it should be, since just about everybody would be OK with having lens corrections applied automatically.

I don't know, I feel like a beginner at LR at times (been using it since 2006).

Yes, I generally have to pick a lens in LR. How do you make it default to anything? Mine is usually set to 'nothing' and I have to manually select a lens profile.

I'm not sure what's wrong with your LR setup but with mine, if I click the Enable Profile Corrections checkbox it automatically applies the correct correction. The Canon list of lenses that it has profiles for is very long as is the Sigma list. As far as I can remember LR has done this for me for a long time. I have a preset that I apply on import that checks that box and changes a number of other settings to get me started on my corrections. It works very well for me. You have a problem with your LR setup.

I managed to get access to RESET LENS CORRECTIONS DEFAULT. It worked a few times, other times not, sometimes back to nothing selected at all, and doing it manually. Seems random to me. Selecting it manually has worked fine for years. I'll just continue with that.

LR is a very difficult program to use. I mean, it is very easy to do the things you KNOW in LR. But it is very hard to do things you DON'T know.

Auto lens corrections on import appears to be one of the difficult things to do. It is not simple. Another is file renaming (LR uses an unconventional interface and lacks find and replace). Yet another is color management. It is a never-ending challenge using LR.

Greetings. We will be in Portugal tomorrow. We loved it the last time we were there. The only problem is sitting in the airport with flight delays. Oh the joy of travel.

I found some guided bird watching sites and I'll probably hire one so I know where to find them.

Normally, I use DxO Optics Pro for RAW processing but after following this thread, I decided to compare it with DPP 4.3 My main conclusions were that DPP was a bit quicker but DxO was much better at reducing CA

My $0.2's worth.

Agreed, DxO is great at CA reduction, much better than DPP.

In fact I'm keeping the old DxO 9 (got it free) only for this tool, although base raw conversion is almost as good as DPP's.

In ver. 11 I didn't like the same tools being implemented in multiple panels. (Easy to be picky with free software to choose from, right?) ;-)a

Also, ver. 9 came in the Elite edition and I thought that I might need the Moiré tool someday... (Had a vision of my wife buying me a 5DSR for my 3/4C birthday) :-)

You can add, delete and reconfigure all of the panels in DxO and create your own with just the tools you use.
