For the past year+ I had two websites: one for my B/W work and another for business. But it always bugged me. Seemed too complicated. Thus, about a month ago, I started to slowly build my all-in-one website. Granted - the impact of the "THE street photographer" lessens, but it does feel much more easier to me. I tried to put it all together. And say "no" to "last shootings", "reportages" and the things, that distract.

Would you be so kind, when you have the time, to look at it and maybe spare some thought on the result?

kreisaiskrasts.lv and olafsosh.com now merged into one OLAFSOSH.COM (external link)

Sorry but the link in your post takes me to a Level(3) search page. The one at the bottom of the page works (http://www.olafsosh.com/olafs.osh (external link)).

I am not the person to ask about website design but yours does seem to be laid out in an acceptable fashion, the links I went through work, pages load at a decent rate.

One thing that I am unsure of is whether or not you are promoting yourself for hire or if you are using the website for personal posting of photos and blog articles.

Your work has a certain edge to it. I always look into your postings. Keep up the good work.

Gart

Thank you! I did have an "n" instead of "h" in the link.

More than ever I like to hear, that it loads ok. It's Squarespace - it was always in the slow-ish side and now I've uploaded a pretty large images to suit all sized monitors. Their compression became better, uffff...

And... thanks!

I merged both sites - so... both. Actually, through the past year+ I found, that people just want to see images and call. For the most part. You don't have to actually sell yourself :/ I hope I'm right...

I did add a little star in the lower left corner. To make it all more down to earth :]

i think you need to look again at how you define Portfolio and Projects, i think you are using the wrong words for the point you are trying to make. In fact in the OP you make a more clear distinction between the "lines" when you say "one for my B/W work and another for business". I think by "my B/W work" you mean the things under Projects on the website. In reality, all the work is some kind of project ... some of it you get paid to do and some of it you do strictly as a creative outlet.

I like what you've got going

Love the look of the site but no one cares what tech you use. The only important tech is YOU, yet you have a page dedicated to the flashes you use and no About Me page. Nothing to tell people you are a professional photographer or what services you offer.

Oh wait, you hid all the important stuff behind a star at the bottom of the page?!? Seriously?

That important stuff behind the star - I actually did not want to put it in the first place, but in the end, figured I should have it, but away from the eyes, not as separate page on top. If people will like, what they see, they will contact me - I am trying this approach now. Also, this time around /I don't know, if you've seen my previous page/, the page is more slick and I hope it does show, that I won't deliver gazillion images for 30 bucks :]

About "About me" page... Well, I think it's unnecessary. Seriously. I've seen so much of them and they are all the same. Vomitory stories, how one have grown into that amazing individual, who "just loves to capture that moment, that will never come back". Seriously... I cannot... If some client loves such thing, I'll gladly let him go - I cannot have everything.

I'll address that opinion, why to write "Nobody cares about camera/software/childhood facts, so I will not bother you with those." if you are not mentioning... it - as it's useless. I agree. That's me - I have to make puns sometimes and the website is not exception :D This one is to that gazzilion of camera people, who proudly list, that they POSTPROCESSING PROFESSIONALLY IN PHOTOSHOP and have MKIII, haha. And then we see images of oversaturated flower photos, HDR's of night cityscapes. I just find it unprofessional, but am to weak to not make a pun. Even if it reaches only one in a thousand :D

Also note, that the star is upside down ;]

/// I am not in the defensive mode here - just laying down my reasoning for things :]

/// Sent couple people /former collegues mostly/ the link as well. Two of them suggested to work on the image arrangement. Working on it.

I spent 20 years working with creatives who wanted to start their own companies. I know exactly how this conversation goes and I know there is no point in discussing it further with you. Just like you many of them didn't want to promote themselves, they didn't want to push all the business info and they didn't want to do marketing. They just wanted to make their art and assumed people would turn up and buy it. After a year or so of not making any money they would come back and say "OK I'm fed up not getting any money, I want to learn about business now".

Making great art requires that you are good at art. Making money from selling that art requires that you are good at business - the two are totally different.

I'll see you in a year when you are ready to start making money from your business. ;)

Totally agree...aside from the fact that good art is indefinable. Good at business is somewhat easier to quantify.
Do you display your stuff on other sites...how is it received?

Are we to assume that you haven't?

meh. Who cares if your work is posted elsewhere or how it is received? Especially in the context of this thread, it's totally irrelevant.

I'm with dan on the need for a description of yourself and/or your business. But I'm also with you on the fact that many photographers' about me page makes me want to puke thumb tacks. One's passion for photography and love for capturing the moment is f'ing irrelevant.

drop TECH and add what you have hidden behind the star.

call it how I work, or hell, even put it on the contact page and drop the other tab all together.

edit: thought you had a contact page, guess not. Bad choice.

Were I interested in turning my photography skills into a business, how my images were perceived would be of interest.
