Oh, OK. I forgot about the old Windows Defender from back then. It was pretty useless anyway.

Use Avast its free and I would say better then the rest. Also is very light on the system unlike the others that bog the system down.
Also can be used on other various platforms such as Android etc.

Can I run Lightroom on Linux?

Oh gosh, let me Google that for you.
No, it doesn't. The point is, utilizing a dual boot system and using Linux for your online activities 100% eliminates the possibility of Windows viruses, thus eliminating the need for antivirus bloatware.

Use DOS and you will be even safer. The only downside is that it won't run anything.

You know what else eliminates the possibility of a Windows virus? Not clicking everything like a 2 year old.

Difference being that those that run DOS right now are some kind of archaic cave dwellers, whereas the Linux users are so far ahead of us in comprehending how an OS works we are the ones that look like the cave dwellers.

I totally agree. However, I don't agree that learning and installing Linux to avoid viruses is a practical solution for most users.

I agree with mike_d. Just be a bit aware when online.

Give the Malwarebytes (external link) a try. Very good at picking up root kits that seldom undetected by regular Anti-Virus software. It can also automatically block malcious websites when you're browsing.

Yes and no.

Not downloading everything in sight and/or not un-checking those pain in the ass "Yes, please install XXXX toolbar"

If you've never had Conduit installed on a PC, f* it and blow the whole OS away and start fresh. 2 friends in a month gave me their laptop with it installed, one of em said it was from a CNET or Download.com link that someone installed, basically a "reliable source".

I remove that kind of stuff from other people's machines regularly and haven't had to reformat one is a long time. Download.com is notorious for packaging crapware with legit software. Do not use.

Yeah, i don't download stuff from those sites but unfortunately people think it is still a legitimate site. Cnet I think is guilty as well.

... and Sourceforge (e.g. VLC player - however, new management promised to clean up their act). And Fosshub (e.g. Spybot Search & Destroy) was compromised and software was loaded with ransomeware.....
It is certainly clever to think before you click - but it is by no means a guarantee that your computer won't catch a cold.
