These look very neat. Except for those pesky planes.

Are you using an equatorial mount? I guess you gotta be due to the plane's lights flashing.

What settings, what ISO? Is it generally good to keep ISO low to prevent "stars" from being introduced by the sensor, or is it OK to crank it up a bit to avoid rotation blur?


How you liking your 10D so far?
I really like the idea of a AF joystick that the 20D has, but I'm still not sure which camera I should go for.

Hi no equatorial mount, just a tripod and cable remote, iso800 f3.5 raw about 25 sec then clean up in lightroom.
I can only buy old cameras on my budget, the 10D is the best one i have had for the night sky.
hope to get a 2,8 lens one day.
the 20D would be better as it takes EF-S lenses the 10D doesn't. but most canon eos film camera lenses work on the 10D.

Pretty cool, I still have my 10D, nice old camera.

Just a thought, but you could get a small bahtinov mask that fits the front of most of your lenses, it will help a lot with achieving focus.

Also, at 28mm on APS-C, I'd shoot for 10 second exposures to limit the trailing/softness.

If you want an F2.8 lens, by the way, you can take a look at older 28mm F2.8 manual lenses, Tamron Adaptall2 & Pentax M42 mounts, they are sharp wide open and give you F2.8 to help you gobble some light, plus they're cheap.
