I am most likely going with a Nikon 70-200 2.8 in a few day and will thinking about going with the 2x nikon telecoverter, But have not clue how it will effect the lens.

it will essentially make the lens a 140-400 f5.6 lens...it will likely have an impact on AF, and IQ...but that's really just a generalization...i know nothing of the combo's actual performance

I have been thinking a lot about what my next lens would be and still can't make up my mind. The Telecoverter only makes scene as a way to cut cost but I feel that the cons might be to bad.

well what are your intended uses of the new lens...adding a TC will give you reach, but there are probably cheaper, other options to gain reach without having the TC if that's all you are after

I want to upgrade gear some. The issue for me is that I really do not know what to do. I have found that my Nikon 70-300 4.5-5.6 just does not focus fast enough, but I just don't know it it is the lens or the Nikon D610. Or if I am doing something wrong. My Sony A6000 is on point and I find that I get faster shots with it but I love my Nikons so.

I think what it comes down to for me is that I want a lens for Nikon that will be good for inside shots for church and outside shots for nature/animals.

sorry i know nothing about nikons, so i can't offer too much help there...but i'm sure someone will be along for that...

if you are happy with the range of the 70-300mm you could add a 1.4X TC which would give you 98-280mm f4 essentially

the problem with trying to get a lens that can cover indoor churches, and outdoor wildlife is that you're going to end up having to compromise on at least one end...because a lens that's good for the church usually isn't going to be good for wildlife and vice versa...TC's allow you to get that reach, but it is a compromise compared to just a native longer lens...but i use a 120-300f2.8 with a 2X all the time for wildlife/birds, and then use it bare for my nephews sports...i do think of grabbing one of the 150-600mm zooms instead, mainly because they seem to be a great bang for the buck...and lighter

+1. I am a sucker for organized shops and tools ;)

That had me intrigued more than the lens itself and that's saying something...

It actually wasn't a typo, but, whatever.

By the way, where are you, Tom? . Been trying to get in touch with you since you "left" this forum, but haven't been successful in getting any response from you.

While own TC's I still on the fence with them. Camera manufacturer's where forced to improve lens quality since digital camera's replaced film and the resolution of the new sensors makes cropping a decent option. I owned a few but for years rarely used them with a preference to cropping. I lost too many fun focusing options with my 7D2. I have been using them a bit more last year due to a new prime telephoto I picked up.

Here is an example of a 5D4 crop which is pretty extreme. Bird is from the bottom left hand corner.

Isn't that the truth?!

I've been trying to track him down to see if I can convince him to get back on here and start posting again, but every which way I try to reach him, I get no response. . I know he's not dead because I searched the death records in his home area. . I hate it when people just up and leave like that. . This forum is going to dwindle away if people just keep disengaging.

I suspect that he doesn't want to be found and doesn't want to be contacted, which of course makes it more difficult. . If only he was active on Facebook or Instagram, it would make it so much easier to get in touch with him.

If you look at his posting history during 2018 he was selling lots of camera gear. Makes me wonder if he was getting out of the photography hobby.
