I've taken a few portraits recently of my little girl. Feel like I'm half blind when taking portraits, don't really know where to improve... Any comments would be appreciated!

#1 has exposure problems in her hair...learn how to ETTR using the histogram in LV.
#2/3 exposure is OK but...the teddy bears seem to be as important as the child.

The exposure looks ok to me in #1. The light on her skin is quite nice and gives her a nice warm glow.

For 2 and 3, the framing looks odd - cutting off at the bottom of her dress. I wonder if maybe a tighter crop on these would look better. Perhaps next time get her legs in the photo. The lighting is good on these also.

She's very cute and seems happy to be posing for you as well.

I don't care for the lighting or the expression in #1. Too squinty.
I am not sure why, but the pearls in #2 bother me. Otherwise very nice.
I really like #3. Looks like she may have a modeling future. :)

Thanks for the critique!

Chauncey - I probably should have done more to separate the background with the bears... Canon 5Dc, no live view so I tried to ETTR with what I had. Could have done better though!

Sued - That's my biggest blindspot - cropping. Maybe I'll try cropping just a bit tighter to see how they work out...

Bassat - I'm curious about the pearls, didn't think anything of them until now... Perhaps they are too grown-up for her? I do agree, she is a good model for me, perhaps others as well in the future ;-)a
