If this lens performs close to as good as the 16-35mm f4 I'll be buying for sure. Decent price

I shudder to think what my refurb 24-105 f/4 IS l is now worth. ;)

I'm glad I didn't buy a new one. I got this one at a discount from the usual Canon Direct price, thankfully so I don't that that much invested. It was cheaper than most of the new, white box/kit lenses that show up every so often.

I doubt I'll buy the new one for some time. I only use it occasionally when I'm not birding. I use the 16-35 f/4 IS for landscapes. I plan on buying a 135 f/2 as my next lens.

I never had an issue with the first lens but sure the v2 will be a nice upgrade (at the cost of more weight :( ) But this will definately secure a nice price for the used market. NEW inventory are about to be offloaded for 570-630 and used market will be in the 400-500 range as it has "sorta" been. Consistently some 500-550 now I think will be 450-500.

I agree with your assessment. I doubt I'll lose more than $100 if I decide I can't live without the Mk ll version.... but I suspect I won't have a problem sticking with the one I have. Lightroom seems to do a good job of correcting some of the known deficiencies of the lens. It's been around for so long, its weaknesses are well known.

If this is as good as the 24-70 f4 or 16-35 f4, this will be my next lens.

I'm somewhat disappointed in the spec of the new 24-105. I don't see anything exciting for the money to be honest. I was hoping for better sharpness to be one of the attractions and I don't see it spec-wise however it's early days yet and I have not seen any sample images nor seen any in-depth reviews. I have always been a fan of this focal length Canon zoom and I shall happily keep the version I have until I'm convinced that the new lens is worth the expense.

Not a great deal to buy in the 'kit'. Usually save more money than that.

it claims edge to edge sharpness, are the MTF's out? You can get a pretty good estimate if they are.

I only paid $600 for a brand new US warranty lens 2 years ago, so I think I've gotten my money's worth out of it! The mk I is probably my most used lens, slightly ahead of the 70-200 f/2.8 so I would definitely consider upgrading after the price settles.

Not much talk about the new 16-35 2.8. I'm actually interested in this but the price is a bit steep

I paid $350 for a used 24-105 STM over a year ago. I'm keeping it.

imagine edge to edge sharpness and sharpness from wide to tele matching the 24-70 2.8 II. It would be worth it then imho having the additonal cost/weight. I think they did that on purpose because the 24-70 F4 IS will now be the lighter option while the 24-105II will now be the longer range better performer/slightly lighter than the 24-70 2.8 II.

Is it sharper than the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS? I just bought one, but can send it back and order the new 24-105mm if it's better. The longer range would be welcome.

so it's a dollar more to buy the 5DIV and 24-105II kit than to buy the two separately? that doesn't make much sense...but maybe they're trying to keep the value of the lens instead of seeing it tank on the used market for people parting out kits...

i'd think a 24-105 vI won't sell for more than $400 once these start getting out there...
