so it's a dollar more to buy the 5DIV and 24-105II kit than to buy the two separately? that doesn't make much sense...but maybe they're trying to keep the value of the lens instead of seeing it tank on the used market for people parting out kits...

i'd think a 24-105 vI won't sell for more than $400 once these start getting out there...

It's this. They saw the market get flooded by "Importers" splitting kits up. This will help slow this process. Won't get rid of it but it's a brand new lens too where at the time the 5D3 was released the 24-105 had been out for some time. I say kuddos to Canon for acting smart but sucks for us. Your paying full price either way.

Not much talk about the new 16-35 2.8. I'm actually interested in this but the price is a bit steep

I myself am more interested in that, however the ridiculous price and the lack of IS made me lose my interest. Its little brother is tack sharp, is a stop slower and has IS. Its quickly becoming my goto lens for a lot of things.

$1099 for the 24-105 v2 at release is not too bad. I bought my current 24-105 v1 about 5 years ago as a refurb and it was near $900.

I've been impressed with my 16-35 f4, too. It'll be coming with me to the UK next week, so it'll get plenty of use.

Sports/Journalism photogs use the 2.8 alot due to shutter requirements. Will be nice to see some ESPN wide angle that has decent corners lol.

I did notice the Mark IV kits with the new 24-105 won't be shipping until Oct 31st as per the Canon USA site.

Potentially to get more body only kits on the market. It's all economics... I bet anything that lens is ready to ship. They want maximum initial body only sales.

I'm trying to follow along.... but I'm a work and it's been a rough one so far. Anway, if the kit price for the lens and the stand alone price are the same, why would it be a matter of economics?

that seems like the wrong approach, selling out bodies due to "low supply" and selling kits instead seems to be a better way to make money. Bundling > al la carte IMO.

Just picked up a refurb last week for $653.00 to my door and it works great and this is the second one since my wife loved the first one I bought last year and I just needed to get another one.

It seems so far to be perfect the once or twice I've used it since I got it and I'm not worried about the new one at this time and when I upgrade in several years it will have been proven by then as to it's ability to outperform the v1.

It was just to far out of my price range to wait and get it and I was looking at refurb'ed Sigma 24-105 but they don't provide the warranty that Canon does on the refurb's and they seldom have it in Canon mount.

I hope that it proves to be stellar in it's ability as I will be looking down the line to upgrade.

The solution is simple: Make the kit lens work only with that body. After 6 months (GPS time), the lens will be unlocked automatically by the camera.

With this idea, you guys will get the discount and Canon will owe me only $1 for each kit sold :p

Yes, I know that the "idea" could backfire for many reasons. I'm just kidding.

I'm really looking forward to this lens.

I use the 24-70 f2.8 II on my 6D as a walk-about for event photography.
A great combo, but I often wish to go beyond 70mm. 105mm will be nice.

Not sure how much I'll miss the f2.8

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.
