no way a 4x+ zoom will be as good. you're asking too much.

I'm not sure if your comment is directed to me.

I didn't say the 24-105 II will be as good as the 24-70 II.
I said 105mm will be nice.

Every new lens canon has introduced has performed much much better than the 1990-2000s era. I have confident the new 24-105 will be a worthy upgrade.

"If this is as good as the 24-70 f4 or 16-35 f4, this will be my next lens."

it was this comment. no way a 4x zoom will perform as well. it'll suffer at the extremes like the current 24-105L thou maybe not as much. of course this won't be evident for six months or so after its been widely owned and the pink cloud dissipates

when the 24-105 was first released in cost at least $1100 so I think its safe too say that the majority of the devaluation has already occurred.

Probably so. I've seen an midlow-midhigh range of 425-550. Still for 500 it's an amazing performing lens.

We will see. The 24-70/2.8 v2 is a 3x zoom and one stop faster, yet an amazing performer.
I think that today's technology could deliver a 4x f/4 zoom as good, but then again there are price restrictions.

i see a pattern. 2.8 glass zoom = 3x. F4 zoom = 4x. F2 zoom = 2x (sig 18-35)

Ok well thats it for the pattern lol.

Very curious to see more about this.

Considering upgrading my 5D3 to the 5D4 to address some of my long running frustrations with limitations in shadow manipulation quality. Don't mind the extra resolution either.

The 24-105 has been my main lens for even longer, probably about 7 or 8 years now. If this improves edge-to-edge sharpness and gives me even better stabilization, I may consider the upgrade. That'll be my first lens upgrade, but it could be worth it.

Disappointed about the fact that the kit with the 5D4 offers no value, will have to wait and see on that one.

not for me.

since it is my most used lens, even a modest upgrade will be useful
but I am still hopeful that the upgrade will be more than modest
based on the previous lenses recently upgraded.

the other upgrade I would love to see is the 70-200 f4IS II ! :)

but that isn't for this thread....

For you guys that are having your doubts....Think again

Jeff Ascough used the new lens. He Says it is excellent. Prime like sharpness across the frame at F/4, distortion, barreling & vignette issues from previous version are resolved. Take a look for yourself. Just about all images are with the new lens

Mine is on order

I'm really hacked off. You guys are getting it for $1099. The dollar equivalent for the same lens here in the UK is $1465. Thats one hell of a rip off.
