I could be wrong but I seem to remember Adobe taking about a month to add 5D3 RAW support for Lightroom but before that release it was possible to convert to DNG with their converter. I would think they would be quicker with the 5D4.

Still shooting a 7D here. Been waiting for this to jump to FF to help me in light limited scenarios. Is there any reason at all to even ponder the 5D3? ...

Vs. 5D4, Used it's half the price.

Vs. 7D, it's a huge improvement across the board.

Im quite amazed at the number of people on here that actually have the camera now and the lack of images being posted..
Does the 5D4 actually take photos or is it just a nice thing to own and talk about

Happy Day! I just opened my delivery and out came my new 5DIV and new holster bag! Another bag! HAHAHAHA!

Anyway, the new camera feels very beefy, just slightly larger than the 5D2, but not that different from the 7D2. I put my 17-40 on it, which is what I always do with a new camera. Put the BR Kick blue strap and took some pictures outside. It's a beautiful day here.

First thing I noticed was the amazing shutter sound. The 5D2 has a "clunky" sound. This is much more refined, softer. I like the feel of the shutter button. There are a lot of focus points I have to figure out first thing. Much to do before really going out. The manual is massive! I will try some macro and landscapes later today. Tomorrow I'm going to work, but have the afternoon off. I will post in the other thread.

Very exciting. How do I put my name on every file, I have to connect the camera to the computer, right? Dang, it's been too long. Does it tell you how to do it in the manual? I have to check youtube. ;)

Happy Thursday, Everyone!

Oh and for the grip, I definitely think the battery holder piece is flimsier, different design (no more contacts on the battery holder itself, the contacts are inside the grip) and the AA battery holder is no longer an option (not that I ever used it or even carried it with me at all)
The button configuration is different, to the point I had to get my eye off the viewfinder during a game while shooting in portrait to find the joystick.
The new button, some people mentioned on the body that it didn't have much feedback when pressed, the one on the grip is even worth, no texture and no feedback at all, you could press it and not know you did!
I just tried my new to me 300mm 2.8L IS and with the tripod ring on at the normal position the clearance between it and the grip is minimal, I can't get my hand fully wrapped around the grip in portrait mode, just an observation. Need to see on my 5D3 how much clearance there is.

Still shooting a 7D here. Been waiting for this to jump to FF to help me in light limited scenarios. Is there any reason at all to even ponder the 5D3? I know that will be a jump but for concerts and indoor sports the 5D4 still seems like a tremendous jump. Anyone wanna talk me out of it?

As for video... I don't do video and the potential in the 5D4, though limited, is still enough to get me moving to a dedicated device. I feel like by the time the limitations matter I'd be looking dedicated anyway.

Well, I think that it all depends on your particular needs. For me, the mere fact it went from 22 to 30mp is a killer for me.. I dont' have the computer equipment/extra hard drives, etc to deal with larger raw files.

As for the dr in the files themselves... if you can properly expose in your situation, then at higher ISO's you will see an improvement in that 1200-6400 iso range... ( I used the 1dx2 sensor in place of the 5D4, he doesn't have that out yet)

http://www.photonstophotos.net …rk%20III,Canon%20EOS%207D (external link)

You are looking at comparable results at higher iso.. except for noise/grain character and how well the shadows will pull. As they have said, either will be a big jump for you 5d4 or 5d3. I love the anti flicker on my 7D2, so I kindof have options. So if spending an extra grand for all the other improvements (extra fps, AF improvements, more DR at 100 etc...) is worth it to you, go for it.

Doesn't stop me from wanting a 5D4, but I'm confident I've made the right decision for me, at the moment. 5D3 is no slouch, can use the lenses on both cameras, and fit to the needs of the situation I have in front of me.

Only you know if you shoot in the edges of situations that would utilize the 5D4 better.

Live view DPAF has too larger of a focus point so this is not entirely true. The spot point that you can choose is a much finer selection that you can get more accurate than live view.

no option of picking a finer point? For testing purposes though, I figure even large boxes are ok if your target is a checkerboard.

Is anyone else slightly unsettled by the reviews that are raving about how it's a great DSLR, nearly as good as the D810, which is being replaced any week now, are we about to be left behind again??

We (photographers/videographers) are always going to be left behind, regardless of the body, unless you update every time a new body is released, be it Canon, Nikon, Sony etc.
I've already seen threads where people are skipping the 5DIV and waiting for the 5DV or the 6DII or III in anticipation that those will out perform anything on the market today :p

To answer your question. I don't feel left behind. I want to shoot today, not wait until the next iteration is released. Think of all those missed opportunities! Life is only so long.
