Canon 5D Mark IV -- Time to Discuss!

For me, coming from a 5DII, I'm pretty excited. If this purchase gets me back in the hobby, I'm going to be very happy. I like learning, so I will be wanting to really get into the controls and abilities of this camera. I will also need to brush up on my LR and PS. I am looking forward to traveling now.

So, people are saying they are skipping the 5DIV? Oh well. I skipped the III. Choices.

I think the people saying they are skipping the mark IV are mostly the video folks. They may come around, they may go a different direction. Best to them either way.

I have the original 5D, skipped the 5d II since the III was out for a few years, and bought the 5d III. It was everything and more in a camera than I thought it would be. I believe the 5D III will be around for years and years to come. I had no intention of upgrading to the IV, until I actually held one and ran it though it's paces. I was impressed and grinned like a kid at Christmas when I left the store with it. I don't do video, so if there are any short-comings on that side of the camera, I will never know about them or miss them. I also never thought they could get a touch screen right, but again, they proved me wrong. I didn't think I'd ever use it, and I find myself using it all the time now. It's fast, intuitive and just works well.

Anyone else MFA'd their lenses yet? Using dot tune method so far did my 70-200 2.8 II and 300 2.8 IS and they're both front focusing(+1W +7T and +10). I don't seem to have the left side front focus issue though.

Im a canon guy. I have Canon glass and have always had a canon body. I waited for this camera for over two years and frankly...............​Canon has made the descision to upgrade way more difficult for me personally than it should have been. Certain specs and some questionable descisions ( cfast ect) far from WOW me. I had planned on buying one right out of the gate but instead of that I will now spend $200 to rent one and see for myself. So does that make the price point $3700 for me?.........sigh!!!!

My 24-70L Mk II needed only +2 on the tele. My 70-200L f/2.8 II is good, as is my 24-105L f/4, which really surprised me.

I ran some tests and have no issues with the left side either.

The price is 3500, you choose to rent for $200. That is the price you are paying for indecision.

I also don't understand why cfast is so desirable. What is the cf card not doing for folks?

i know at Adorama , if you rent a camera and then decide to buy it they will deduct the rental cost from the cost of camera purchase .. i'm sure there are time limitations etc.. but defenitly makes renting before purchasing more attractive ..
i'm assuming adorama isnt the only one who does this if for whatever reason(distance) they dont work for you

shooting both 1Dxii with 5DIV as backup?

whatever card it may be, having the same across bodies definitely lot less headaches. Having built in memory on top of cards would be really cool too, hate it when I forget to bring a card! Usually carry an emergency, but it ticks me off that I forget.

All my old CF and SD cards work. I don't do major bursts of photos so I don't need massive speed.

I did just buy a 64gb SD card to use for 4k video - which I will only do rarely.

People blasting Canon for not putting in CFast but to me there's no need and they saved me a bunch of money. I suspect over 80% of the market is in the same boat - so Canon chose to go with the market.

Not really. The 810 is a outstanding camera no doubt and has pushed Canon to improve their game, but there doesn't seem to be a new Exmore out there so I suspect the 810 replacement will be a fine tuning on their already great product. In any case, the 5DIV is clearly an improvement in the Canon universe.

I owned a D810 and a D750 but actually preferred the D700. At this level of technology all of these cameras are fantastic choices and what makes one camera 'better' than the other is entirely subjective. I'd consider it myopic to call one camera better than the other based solely on the sensor. One has to consider the entire package. I'm not sure how anyone is left behind by owning any one of these cameras.

Cfast would of sucked. The fact the UHS-1 Sandisk Extreme Pro cards work on 4K means I just bought a 256GB card for $123! Thats cheaper than I paid for my 64GB 1066x card just two years ago. They want unlimited buffer and they "could" have but since when has Canon ever done that?... oh the 1DxII and it's a new feature and they want it in that camera and probably in 4 years that will be done and we will have unlimited buffers for all cameras from that point on. I surely am not missing anything.

You guys picking apart IQ at the pixel level... ppfff... 110% of americans who look at images DO NOT CARE about pixel level IQ and still love images from 10yr old cameras. IT'S NOT THE CAMERA THAT PRODUCES GREAT IMAGES.... THEY JUST SIT THERE WAITING FOR THAT TINY NUGGET BEHIND YOUR EYEBALLS TO TELL IT WHAT TO DO

if one is going to worry about always being ahead then the 5d4 wont last you long..... ..and as talley said above , at this point its when you really start tearing things down to the point where who the in the world wouold notice it when viewed normally

sony is due for something out soon ,, arent they on a yearly schedule? .. as eventually will be nikon and everyone else..
and then people will cry again about why canon is behind.. and either jump ship or stay for the long haul..

Those that stay for the long haul are perfectly happy where they are , and they should be , they have the camera that fits thier needs
