It might sound cliché but just because the ability exists to do something doesn't mean it should be done. At least not all the time. Using the Sony galleries as an example I find the best images are made by those who understand the importance of shadow and leave a good deal in the image. Just like the images the 5D3, 5D2, 5D and film before them were capable of producing. Even if you discount this argument the fact remains that what happens from now on in the dynamic range race is moot. No matter which system you use you've got more than enough.
That said I leave you with the following quote from Edward Steichen who I believe knew something about great imagery. - I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself—mysterious and ever-changing light with its accompanying shadows rich and full of mystery.
