I don't use lightroom, never have...

I use Lightroom to edit and export photos for use on the internet, but I end up removing everything when I am finished. I absolutely hate all of these photography software applications that think they can organize my photographs better than I can. I still use the old Canon Zoombrowser to navigate my library of photos, and I think Zoombrowser EX stinks.

The more and more I keep using live view the more I love it. The facial tracking is spot on... no worries about micro adjustment... shooting the 50A wide open its 100% accurate. Really good stuff.

Canon just needs to come out with a full size mirrorless. Maybe the size of a 80D w/ a flippy screen but electronic viewfinder and no mirror. would be a nice option to have.

Wow that sounds incredibly inefficient.

Don't knock the guy... maybe he hasn't learned all the ins/outs. Keywording, date organizing etc... love it. My wife hated it at first because she had her own system... her system sucked and now she loves lightroom.

I didn't really get lightroom either until I got a book and read how to set it up properly. Once i did that, I couldn't imagine keeping track of thousands of images and editing dozens or hundreds at a time without it.

Hey everyone, so I picked up a Mark IV today (yay!), But I have this weird issue going on. I'm sure I'll wake up in the morning and everyone will be laughing at my noobish question, but I'm pretty stumped.

See below for 2 sample pictures. I get that set of dark rings on 95% of my pictures. It's also there in live view. But then other times it's nowhere to be found (ie hasty sunset picture attached). If it's something super simple, everyone have a free laugh on me :) The only lens I've tried so far is my Sigma 35m art.

You do have a point regarding software. I really hate "change for change's sake", and Microsoft excels at doing that, or at least so it seems.

With you on that!

There are a bunch of things in Win10 that are different from Win7 but many are a backwards step. Take folder view for example. In Win7 (and XP?) I was able to see photo data/info at the bottom of the folder, it was resize-able and was a tremendous help when handling files and quick-checking files. AND, if I desired, I could turn on a preview pane/window on the right within the folder to see the photos larger in a preview. Now, MS just had to screw it up. No info/data at the bottom of the folder any more. Not even optional any more. You have the option of "details pane" OR "preview pane" on the right (or neither). It cannot be moved to the bottom. I searched initially whether I could move it to the bottom. Nope, not possible. Nevertheless, I also found thousands of others who were ticked off since this has totally screwed up their workflow (including mine).

...and, this is exactly my point!

Forget making use of the gazillion gigs of ram that are now available and ignore the automatic linking to social media (for those who will just die if somebody doesn't LIKE them)...

Just leave obvious, simple and USEFUL features alone!

Again, I don't even let ANY program organise anything for me.

I have separate remote hard drives that I download my photo folders to, named by date taken...that's all the organisation I need to find anything I want, instantly.

I use Photoshop CS3 (simply because I have the entire CS3 Design suite), why upgrade...what does photoshop NOT do for me?

And, that goes the same for XP!

I don't let Lightroom organize things for me. I tell it how to organize things for me. I have a folder for each year and a folder for each day within that. After final culling, I rename images as YYYYMMDD-XXX.cr2. This makes it very easy to find an original image file, either within LR or on the hard drive. LR's database also makes it easy to organize images into collections, regardless of when they were taken, search by keywords, or search by some combination of other metadata like lens or aperture.

Same exact way for me too....

however mine is -XXXX.cr2 because sometimes I just do more than 999 photos in a day :)

I adore Lightroom mostly for the fact that I can process pics with it in my sleep at this point. It has become 2nd nature. I tried a trial of On1. I can't say it is a bad program but I can never see myself making the switch.

I cull pretty aggressively so I doubt I'll ever go over 999 keepers in a day. Browsing through LR, it looks like the max stands at 161.
