These are my exact thoughts. I really like my 7d2 but my 5D3 AF was always more consistent. I expect the 5D4 to be better. I want to see some crop examples as I have the 100-400 II and can't see getting a longer lens anytime soon.

Since my last post I've been doing some more reading on the subject and comparing the 5D4 to my 1D4, I see the 5D4 has these advantages...

Slightly more pixel density than my 1D4.
Has the AF module from the 1DXII.
Better base ISO DR (which is good since I shoot aviation at ISO 100 or 200).
Larger and higher resolution LCD.
7 fps (maybe a good thing, since my 1D4 is either 3 or 10 fps and I've always wished for something in between).

Time will tell how the 5D4 works for action photography. I'm also looking forward to seeing some crop samples.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

interesting video but you thing a photography review site could invest in at least a consumer grade video stabilization platform instead of giving the one guy deep into the DTs from alcohol withdrawal the camera to hand hold. :):):)

I think this is the Creative Live guys visiting dpreview..? That's how I understood this. Video quality was poor, but I guess they were just so excited to get this out as fast as they can to get more hits on the blog.

The Dual Pixel raw feature is new to this camera. Most of the rest seems to be available tech turned up to the next step.

Note that the a7Rii is a different beast; superb image quality, but I see loads of reports about bad battery life and inability to track moving subjects like a DSLR.

Agreed on the UK pricing though; there's high, then there's offensive.

You should see the New Zealand price $5999 in tax

Do you mean 5999 NZ dollars with or without tax? If it's with, then that's cheaper than than the UK price isn't it?

Man I just read over and over and over how crappy the 5D4 is for video... some peoples priorities. And yet no complaints on it's stills capability.

To me... I chalk this up as people want the best of the best for cheap... want video... go buy a cinema camera and quit complaining :)

Lots of armchair engineers out there who just love to complain.

I'm sure there is something out there that would be perfect for that person... I wish I knew more about other cameras... I suppose that makes me ignorant?... or a happy Canon customer :)

+1........Its a DSLR thats primary task is to produce excellent stills photos, which no doubt it will be very good at....Video is secondary on the 5D4 and to have 4k video is a bonus in its self.
Anyone who wants to shoot stills and video needs to invest in a stills camera AND a video camera.......you cant expect to get both at a professional level from a £3,600 DSLR..

The 5D2 and 5D3 were released with excellent video features for their time. People were just hoping for FF 4K and are sadly disappointed. Makes total sense to me, and I don't shoot video.

My PRIMARY interest in the 4K is it's frame grab ability. For me my kid is in baseball...albeit 8U so it's still small kids. You don't know how many countless 10fps 7D2 shots or 6fps 5D3 shots I wasted trying to get the ball on bat photo. I did succeed but even still with timing and all that its like 70% wasted shots. NOW... I can use 4k and have 30fps and pull a frame from it and nail it every time AND it works to 1/4000 shutter AND it's a 1.64 crop so I can use my 200/2 and get me closer to the action doing this. NO more wasted shots. I also take photos of all the kids on the team as my way to contribute, in the end I do a 8x10 print of all the kids and a CD of many photos to their parents. They love them and I don't mind doing this.

Two of my daughters are in dance... I can now just do 4K and have them do their jumps/spins and be able to grab the perfect shot. This doesn't take away from using the regular photo because its' only 8.8MB photo BUT for facebook and having the memory it serves great.

I also took some of the frame grab samples of the 1DC and printed them to 8x10 and believe me I have ZERO issue with the output... looks fantastic! So again I'm just tickled over here and cannot wait to get my new 5D4!

Then canon should stop promoting its video capabilities as if they were something special..

Yes I think this feature is going to be cool too. Be nice if it was more pixels but it should still be good enough for 8x10s. Where did the 8.8 come from? Is that just 30mp cropped to the 1.7 crop?

There is but one problem with frame grabs at 4K that is a big problem actually.
What is the problem? You forget that 4K is only at 30fps video, meaning especially for moving shots you are guaranteed to not get sharp enough images as 30fps video is same as an image shot at 1/30 sec shutter speed, not nearly enough to not get motion blur ;-)a

It seems like the only way to do the stills grab effectively is to dumb down the 4k capability with the crop and effectively useless compression codec. Canon clearly choose stills as a priority on this one. Still I think this should have been the specs an a $2000 6D2 and the 5D4 should have offered more for $3500.
