I have no idea if anything in this write up is helpful or not, but others might like to read it.

Which is what basically is written in the manual.

I seem to be getting inconsistent results with regards to in focus shots..My rate of keepers was much higher with my 6D which seems bizarre..
Maybe I will sit down tonight and check through my settings again but there shouldn't be too many things to get wrong using single shot and one shot af..

Same problem here, but I know this AF system from the 1Dx so my settings are good.

I read that as if you have Touch Shutter turned off, when you touch the screen, you are merely selecting your AF point, but AF won't actually take place at that time, until you activate focus, either using the back button or shutter half press if configured as such.

If you have Touch Shutter turned on, then when you hit the screen, it will AF, then take the shot.

That is my interpretation anyways.

I emailed Pocketwizard today to ask about firmware update for the Flex TT5 and Mini TT1 with the 5D4 and they replied:

Hi Michael,

Thank you for contacting us. We are currently working on firmware to make the 5D Mark IV compatible with our ControlTL radios. Unfortunately the process of developing firmware is not always an easy one, let me explain. To develop firmware for new equipment we must first reverse engineer the communications coming up through the hot shoe of the radio. We then have to write new code into our preexisting firmware to accommodate for any changes in the new camera's internal coding. When new code is introduced there is a chance that it can adversely affect all the other equipment that is compatible with our radios which is why we extensively test thousands of settings and variables to find any bugs caused by the new firmware. Once a bug is found we must then create a new firmware revision to resolve that bug and then testing will start all over with the new firmware revision.

Being a third party company we have no early access to new cameras nor do we receive insider news about new camera firmware releases. This means when a new camera is on the market, we have to stand in line with everyone else and wait for our camera to come. Once we receive the camera, that is when we can finally start the long process that is described above.

I hope it is clear why we can not give an expected release date. It is not that we withholding information, but instead that we do not have the information to give. The most I can say is that we are working hard, making progress, and when we have more information - so will you.

So it's fair to say there will be one...soon!

You can try mine too. In this thread, there is a dropbox link to one you can print out and fold.

Cheers. Yes I need to get to that tonight, but according to the instructions in the manual you have to select your focus point by touching the screen and then half press the shutter button. So the only time it should focus by touch is using the "touch focus" option? Which did not work. Could be connected to the back button focus but seems a bit odd if it is.

A ways back in this thread someone posted that touch focus didn't work when using back button focus. As some already suggested go back to normal shutter button function and see if that fixes the problem.

so I found a really good deal on a new 5DIV, and will probably pull the trigger soon rather than wait until there are some more promotions. So for you guys who have had the camera for a month now, what are your impressions, particularly those moving from a 5d3? I guess I was contemplating on getting a a7rii and using a metabones adapter, but practically speaking, the ergonomics would kill it for me. The other thing I have in mind is the 5dsr, which would be an upgrade over the 5d3 in many areas, but I think I would want the flexibility of the 5div for general shooting (travel, landscape, family).

My main reason for moving from the 5D3 to the 5D4 was because after getting the 7D2 I was really craving the relatively advanced feature and customization set in the 7D2 firmware. What I've found in the 5D4 is that and so much more. Yes, naysayers can pick the camera apart in an attribute vs attribute comparison but as a whole this is the most complete camera I have ever owned (and that includes the A7RII and several other mirrorless bodies). In terms of a system the IQ, DR, ISO performance, customization and lens selection make it more camera than I am going to need for a long, long time. If you aren't 100% sure about an outright purchase it is definitely worthy of a trial period. Keep us posted.

Well I simply turned AF back on for the shutter button and left back button on too, now live focussed by touch and also in touch shooting mode. That is VERY annoying! :( Thanks form the help.

My solution, ( when I get around to it, ;) ) is going to be to set up one of the C1-3 settings for Video/Live view shooting. time spent messing about making the camera set best to Video, yes, but in the end, SO easy to go back and forth from optimal video settings back to optimal photo settings.

This is the only option I can see Jake, because it also means AF will not work when using the remote camera app too. Still somewhat of an oversight IMO. I will be emailing CPS to add it to their "to do" list.

I have been having some inconsistant focusing so I opened some raws up in DPP to have a good look at them. I was using A1servo and focusing using the centre point but when I view the shots and show the focus points it shows the af point ABOVE the centre point as being the one used...Is this usual ?
Also I have the CF card set to record raw and the SD card to record jpegs....when I download the files to my computer i do not seem to have the corresponding raw for the jpeg on all of the shots...for instance, I would have 004jpg but no 004crw file...but I would have 007jpeg and also 007crw...
Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong??

For the files issue - if you delete an image from a card then I believe it'll only delete from the playback card. So, if (in camera) you deleted image 004 but by default had the CF card (which is card 1) as playback, then you'll likely still have 004.jpg on the SD card.

For the AF points... that's odd. What AF points mode were you using? If it was a point + 4 or 8 assist then it may be showing the point that actually locked focus (which could be one of the assist points).
