I see front/back focusing but not on target.

That is the problem Talley, it is ramdomly focusing in front of and also behind the subject....
I have heard back from the seller and he is going to send me out a replacement the same day he receives my one back...

pmd you Talley...

This must be frustrating as hell.

From these images I would NOT say I can see front or back focus at all. There is a clear line of grasses that is more in focus than the rest, but in none of the images could I hazard a clear idea if it is in front of or behind the deer, and much more importantly, in none of the images does the foliage have a line that looks "sharp enough".

I am glad to hear that you have the option of swapping or refund.

Live view produces sharp results....I get the same issues using centre or outer points, I was switching often during the morning.

On my 5D3 I found I could MFA my 70-200II, but changing the camera to subject distance would always result in either front or back focus (affecting all AF points, but always good with liveview). I sent the body and lens to my local service centre and after a tweak they worked perfectly together. That may be one option to consider; especially if you are going to replace the body and a new one shows the same problem.

Its very frustrating Jake....I was not expecting this at all.
Needless to say I will be testing the new arrival very carefully..Its not as though they are a cheap camera(especially here in the UK).
Will let you know how the saga progresses

Hope fully the new body will be fine but I will bear that in mind....Did it only happen to you with the 70-200 and the other lenses were ok??

Yes, and I hadn't used that lens on any other bodies so I believe it was probably faulty from new. But I have heard of odd issues between bodies and lenses that can only be resolved when the two are adjusted together.

My 500f4 has been spot on with previous bodies so hopefully the exchange body will cure my problems.....have to be pretty unlucky to get 2 lemons in a row...

They are shipping all the factory seconds to the UK?
Or maybe they prefer a dry atmosphere?

More than likely the cameras shipped to that seller in the UK are from the same lot. Would be interesting to see if the serial numbers were close to being consecutive.

Clearly my comment was simply a joke, but you actually raise a possible serious explanation!
Now I am indeed curious.

Don, I would delete all MFA values and start over. Skip MFA till you've got a problem IMO. Some of the shots look too far off for MFA to fix.

I dont know if it's user or not as the 5D's are vastly different from 6D's, zones/small point/ect. Shooting higher MP will reveal all sorts of flaws. Mess with the AF types to see if you can get accurate stuff, and use test charts in the field if you must.

hope you get it resolved.

I did try it out straight out of the box, noticed the focus was off but thought MFA would fix it. It doesnt seem to matter what values you dial in the problem still persists....
Its all boxed up ready to return now so we will have to see what the new body brings to the game..
