Yes, law became effective April 1.

I think Talley clarified all of this in a subsequent reply, you really should read past the original post. ;)

...hmm, would that apply to all 5D4s worldwide, or just for the US?

Got my replacement camera on Wednesday and all seems well with the autofocus after a very quick test with my 70-200...Going out tomorrow to try the 500f4 and see if I get some in focus shots this time...fingers crossed..

Canon updated the battery firmware hidden within the new 5D4 firmware and it's been suspected to put the battery into a drain mode when not in use due to the li-ion type battery and the new regulations forming around these types. The battery when stored must drain to 30% capacity within 4 days of use as mandated by the federal government.

Seriously?

Yes, but who reads follow ups and corrections? I wouldn't be surprised if Talley's remark will find its way to the Canon community at large, happily buzzing around for years to come. :-P

It worldwide and it's to stop them exploding like Samsung batteries ;)

Good luck. I've been busy this week so haven't had time to do any shooting. I still think the 70-200 and my 100L have issues with the left sided points though :(

All this battery talk got me worried. So I turned on my 5D4 after it being in my bag for the week and it only had one notch on the battery level. :-x

Let's see how the Wasabi's I had from my 5D3 hold up.

One question on those experiencing battery drain. Do you have the GPS enabled? Just wondering i the GPS still tries to maintain position even when powered off.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

That makes no sense. Why would a camera in sleep mode or off
keep asking if a lens is attached?

Perhaps it isn't the camera that is asking; the TC might be designed to always talk to the lens when it has power to do so, and the camera always supplies power to the TC so that the whole system can wake up and be ready to shoot faster. The absence of a lens makes the TC stay awake more, asking, "Hello? Hello? Hello? Anylens there?".

It might be interesting to take one of those AC/battery adapters and put an ammeter in line with one of the conductors, to see how much current the camera draws when you connect a TC with and without a lens (or various TCs; I imagine that a non-reporting one needs no power and the pins are just pass-through, like in AF extension tubes).

Anyone else find this annoying?

On the mkIII, the depth of field preview button lay under my third finger. I had it configured to toggle between 'one shot' and 'servo AF'. Any time I wanted a quick change of mode, I just pressed in with my third finger tip. However, the button has moved downwards on the mkIV. It's now beyond my third finger, lying across from my little finger... which is too short to reach it! To reach it now, I have to change my whole grip on the camera and squidge down and across with my third finger.

Why did they move it?

Col

These are small, but the ones out there are far away.

really? I dont really notice the move dramatically impacting my use. However, maybe you should swicth to back button focusing, and just have it on AI servo 100%. I am testing that method out, and man, is it so much better... so far :)

It doesn't really bother me. I think after a while your muscle memory will reprogram itself and you'll forget about it.
