I think I read about that. I never used zone AF with my 7D but decided to give it a good run with my 7D2 and love it. Same with my 5D4. I'm interested in both people and BIF. Harder to tell with wildlife but I'll give it a good run.

So has anyone tried iTR yet? My 7D2 just had on or off. One shot was facial priority and AI Servo colours. I noticed as soon as I ran through the menus the 5D4 has ON and Facial Priority. Instructions say when ON it uses colours and faces. When on Facial it uses colours and faces as well but puts a higher priority on faces. This seems to apply equally to both One Shot and AI Servo.

I shut it off on both cams. I think I'm going to give it a try this year.

I enabled it whilst using a portrait format shot that covered the whole of a slide (i.e. fairly wide angle). Having initially moved the AF point to my daughter's face it did a very good job of staying on target as she flew down; with the framing of the shot being unchanged. Whether it would have worked the same without iTR I'm not sure.

I read an interesting article that noted how AF Cases that permit rapid changing of AF points can be unreliable under certain scenarios - e.g. wide angle shots; because the phase AF system has a harder time determining AF (due to the deeper DOF giving less difference between the two image halves used for phase AF). The point being made was that iTR can be very useful in those scenarios because it's operating on colour information instead of depth. Exactly how true that is I don't know, and I suspect you'd have to do extensive testing to show a difference in the various scenarios.

Camera, some lenses, too little time, too little talent

Intersting thanks. I use 65 or 61 point zone quite often when birding.

iTR also works with some animals, strangely enough. Try it at your next zoo outing.. ;)

I just go there to test new or existing gear. Occasionally when I get bored. I judge by birds eyes, beaks, claws. I did find a better place with better natural light to test. A bird sanctuary and they have 3 barn owls indoors.

I'll wait unit spring when there are more plentiful flying birds around. About 20 miles north there is mass of a pelicans to work on.

I just came up with another idea. I'm sure you all know I have been whining about Canon not adding Drive Mode to the Detail Set on my 7D2. Didn't do it for the 5D4 either. Here is another one. Add a separating Focus from Exposure option.

Both Focus from Exposure are active while using the shutter button only. When you press a BBF - Focus drops out of the shutter button.

I still like to use the shutter for stills and a BBF for BIF. I have not separated Focus and Exposure on the shutter and have not noticed any issues but an auto separating option would be cool.

As for drive mode I just leave it in High Speed Continuous. It would be nice to leave it in single and then it changes to HSC when you press a BBF - or the other way around. There are so many more things Canon could add to the detail set.

Any updates on the sensor issue (the one where you had to +81 Whites in Lightroom)? :)

Any "non-official" findings? :)

Wondered how folk were getting on with using the Wi-Fi function?

I connected to my tablet for the first time, using Canon Camera Connect app. However, the connection process on the camera side seemed rather strange - to the point where I am wondering if my camera is behaving correctly? It seemed that the screens where the options of which device do I want to connect to and the 'easy connection' options don't appear at the point that they should? I have to go through the steps of disconnecting, and rather randomly at some point I get the screen I thought I should have obtained several steps previously... if that makes any sense at all?

Anyway, having got connected, it all worked nicely, and having the touch focus and focus tracking drivable from the tablet was impressive. I will need to try and find something interesting to use it on now - some shy bird somewhere. Only downside is it drains the battery at an alarming rate!

I couldn't resist taking a photo of my tablet, showing me taking a photo of my tablet, showing me taking a photo of my tablet, showing me taking a photo of my tablet... ad infinitum!

I looked at it a few times but never really put any effort into. I did not find it very intuitive. I tried to find info about RAW files and I'm not even sure if it will transfer them. I did a few searches I think I read it will but it is very slow. If so I won't bother.

I had a go with using Wi-Fi file transfer of RAWs from camera to PC when I first got the camera, last October. It works, no problemo! Only thing is, the photoshoot I did it with took over an hour to download by Wi-Fi, when a USB3 card-reader did it in under 2 minutes. Definitely one to use in an emergency.

Thanks for the info. Basically what I found with a quick search.
