Trying to use off camera flash, when i half press the shutter button the LCD screen becomes a lot brighter ( ie it bypasses the IS0 preview being dark) and if i move the ISO up or down the screen preview lighting stays the same until i leave it for a few seconds - then it shows me the correct lighting for my settings - is there a way to change this?

opps forgot to add I am using a 760d with yongnuo 600ex-rt flash off camera with a yougnuo YN-E3-RT Transmitter on the hotshoe and a canon 24-105mm 1:4 L usm

Welcome to the forums.

It would be extremely helpful if you'd tell us what make/model of camera, lens, and whatever else you are using so that folks can analyze your problems.

That's normal behavior when an E-TTL radio trigger or E-TTL flash is in the hot shoe. Also, when auto focusing in dim light without flash in live view, the LCD will brighten to aid the camera's contrast focusing.

With some cameras, exposure simulation can be turned off in the live view menu. That results in a bright LCD regardless of ambient light levels.

just trying to find some info and I have read its the cameras exposure trying to show that its under exposed and brightens up the scene until you take the picture so you can focus ( then returns back to the under exposed image) - but I am trying to under expose ( so I can see the results of adjusting ISO etc) with out this happing - is this possible?

If you're asking if a flash exposure can be previewed on the LCD, the answer is no.

no mate its not a flash exposure preview i was after lol - its the LCD preview automatically brightens up after I deliberately under expose a scene (not the final taken image though that's correct) - its when I try and change the ISO the LCD preview stays exactly the same until I leave it several seconds and then it shows me the correct darkened/ lightened image until I half press the shutter button again then it immediately brightens back up again ( but only in the LCD screen preview)

Yes. If your flash trigger is in the hot shoe and ambient is set for underexposure, the LCD will brighten momentarily with a half-press of the shutter. Without the flash trigger, the LCD will also brighten momentarily when auto focusing. I don't think you can avoid those behaviors.

Take a picture and see what it looks like instead. If things are slow enough so you can use live view, then I presume you can use that method as well.
