Something I noticed about the TamG2 today. The zoom ring is very very VERY tight. I thought It was the cold
but back in the house letting it warm up and it is still very very tight.
I didn't notice the first week of ownership, then took off on a trip, came back home to now discover how tight
it is. I mean tight enough to warrant a shipment to Tamron service.
Any thoughts?

Does it extend while carrying it? The first one extends by itself while walking around. Maybe they tightened it up a bit to avoid that or maybe it's an early production issue. Do you have a store near by with a display model you could handle and compare?

I've seen this mentioned in a video. Turned out that person had the zoom lock engaged. Did you accidentally engage the lock and not notice it. The zoom will still function but it is stiff to turn. Only the button lock will prevent zoom operation. Just a thought.

Thanks for the thoughts.
I made sure the lock was off.
No it doesn't extend on its own due to gravity.

Here's the real puzzle---I never noticed how still a couple of weeks ago when I first got it.
Then it sat on the shelf while I was away, and now suddenly I'm noticing it :(

Mine was firm while I had it, not tight if you define tight as hard to turn. If it were my lens I would send it for repair.

There is the button-lock to prevent it from sliding out, and then there is the zoom-lock on down the lens. You probably already know this, just wanted to make sure it wasn't something as easy as the zoom-lock on.

Now I wondered when you reported this, but I thought no can't be :) Glad you are sorted.

Just to make you feel better there was the time with my G1 I turned off AF instead of VR and wondered why my shots were not sharp; I was being particularly dippy that day.

I am on the fence on ordering this lens or the Canon 100-400ii, I've read every review I can find and forum post. Anything you all can add towards with lens?

The thing I would say is if you accept the IQ of a cropped 100-400 is as good as the G2 at 600, then the G2 still gives better control over the placement of the focus point, particularly if like me you need to often crop at 600 anyway.

WhiteVenom I'll add this as I was shooting with a new to me EOS 400mm/5.6 that arrived today.
I bet you know this already but maybe not and def. for anyone studying any long lens.
ANY long lens, whether it is 150-600, 100-400, 400, and so on will ALL benefit by decreasing the distance
to the target.
I know Tony Northrup often gets a bad rap but watch this video anyway-
https://www.bing.com …53AA654E799B6&FORM=VRDGAR (external link)
Any of the lenses alluded to above are capable of fantastic photography but if it is wildlife the question is are you (not you specifically, you know what I mean) willing to do what it
takes? Northrup points out that is often hours and hours invested in the woods, proper clothing, hides/blinds, etc.
Here is an example where I stood by the tripod for 6 hours, I only moved for 30-45 seconds to void my bladder-

Glad it is not a lens problem.

As I said in my original post related to this, one of the reviewers did the same thing.

Keep us up to date on how the lens performs overall.

Done that. Don't get me started. Some of the things I've done. :-( embarrassing.

Maybe we need a new thread. "Camera bloopers - stupid things you've done that you'd like to forget."
