Just noticed in the fine print on the 150-600 G2 brochure (link above in an earlier post) that this lens comes with a case! That is something new for Tamron, unless the other lenses in the new SP line also have cases. I have owned five Tamron lenses, and none of them came with a case.

Digital EOS 90D Canon: EF 50mm f/1.8 II, EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro, Life-Size Converter EF Tamron: SP 17-50mm f/2.8 DiII, 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 DiII VC HLD, SP 150-600 f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2, SP 70-200 f/2.8 Di VC USD, 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 DiII VC HLD Sigma: 30mm f/1.4 DC Art Rokinon: 8mm f/3.5 AS IF UMC

Has anyone seen any updates on shipping time here? I was also trying to find a digitalrev, matt granger etc preview of this at photokina but I am not seeing much. Was this even on display at photokina?

If what you say is correct, why did Canon introduce MFA?

The dock is not just for focus calibration. It allows firmware updates and also customisation with regards to stabilization and focus limit distances.
In my opinion that puts Sigma ahead of Canon for features. I had a Sigma 150-600 Sport and did not find the need to make any focus adjustments. It just worked and it worked very well.

I am glad you were fortunate to enjoy a good quality lens.

We also can't deny that Sigma doesn't have focus issues. I understand all the firmware updates, then again, it validates my above point. It should be a complete product to begin with. I didn't need to purchase a dock for my Canon lens so I could get on a computer download more files, de-crypt them and install them on a lens so that it could focus to how it should be right out of the box.

To each their own, I choose to not look at their offerings anymore and I am not alone in this.

Matt did his preview already,

It seems to be sharper and accurate focusing at least based on his early tests. There are new teleconverters to go with it as well.

Thanks. I looked at his channel and don't know how I missed it.

I know I should just buy the 100-400 II but I could also get an UWA zoom which I also want along with this 150-600 G2 for the same price as the 100-400. I want to see more in-detail reviews to see how close those two really are. I am thinking that 150 is too long on the wide end for soccer. I'd really like a 70-400 or 80-400 or whatever Nikon has kind of option.

I already have a UWA and a Tele in 70-200. I usually keep them in my driver kit with 5D. My plan is to mount a long tele permanently to 7D for birding, wildlife and sports etc and just leave it on.

100-400 MK II thread is filled with mouth watering pictures. Reviews indicate that even cropped to 600 its sharper than 160-600 variants so that's something to consider. I know there is a price difference but Tamron is going up in price too and 100-400 MK II can be had for around $1800 used or refurbished.

So I might cave in to Canon, more so to do with trust among other things but I will definitely wait until reviews on G2 comes out.

70-400, Sony right? Well I can vouch for the 70-400Gii, in fact ordered an a99ii just for it.
I don't know anything about the Nikons though :(
My problem with the Tam is shipping is Nov 28 and I'm gone on a 4 day bike camping trip.....

Tony Northrup did a comparison of the 100-400, Tamron 150-600 and Sigma 150-600 (I think this is it)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgurGidoSJs (external link)
His conclusion IIRC was they are all good but that the Tamron is the least good. Then again it was when I bought it £150 cheaper than the Sigma and a few hundred less than the 100-400mm so that should be expected.

That was 1st gen, correct?
I did find a difference between 1st gen Sony a-mount and 1st gen EOS mount.
Early reviews say incremental increase in IQ, soft with 1.4TC. Soon enough I'll be judging at home.
