I am reading POTN and a new window opens playing ads for a new game module for win10. Guess we do not control our own computers.

I have not seen that on my Win10 PC. What browser are you running? You might want to look for unexpected browser add-ons/extensions and run a Malwarebytes scan. (malwarebytes.org -- get the free one)

Try the steps outlined at http://www.pcworld.com …and-how-to-stop-them.html (external link). Note there are several things to do that will pretty much eliminate the ads pushed down by Microsoft but you may get others depending on individualized browser settings.

I bet Microsoft is in bed with virus software companies ...

well, most of the vulnerabilities that virus' took advantage of over the previous decades beginning with Win 95, IE, ActiveX etc. were all enabled by Microsoft's desire to make the OS that we pay for a vehicle for Microsfot and 3rd parties to advertise on,. The desire to make our OS experience an advertising opportunity opened, nay, created MANY back doors.

So your not too far off.

Haven't had any problems with pop-ups here. Windows 10 and Chrome.

Just run Malwarebytes. Probably you have a virus or adwares.

More than likely you have malware of some sort that is triggering the pop up. What browser are you using and do you know what plugins or extensions are active?

Try installing another browser...Firefox would be my first choice along with NoScript. It could also be triggered by
something that has corrupted the link in your bookmarks.

Hope this helps,

110yd

Adblock Plus is not so good any more. UBlock Origin is now the better choice.

I've dedicated an old laptop for online use. It runs on Linux and performs as fast as my newer computer. It provides me with hassle-free surfing in addition to many other tasks it is capable of handling.
