I'm quite at home with PS, been using it since it was first released, quite good at B&W conversions in fact, but sometimes, all I want is a version of instagram on my PC. Sometimes I don't want a massive program, I don't want to faff around with layers, I just want a quick fiddle to stick it on Facebook. So, what's the best PC based program for doing that sort of thing?

A brilliantly simple and quick photo editing system that then shares the images on a social media photo sharing platform, but only on phones. Can't believe there isn't anything similar on the PC? The tilt/shift function is great fun. I know it's not 'proper', but sometimes, it's all you need.......

Ah, I see the problem - social media. I don't play in that park.

Your thread title confused me. Is your question about the filters that IG uses? Are you saying that the filters are all you need for your photos? Or are you asking if sharing your photos on IG is all that is needed?

I get my photos shared more on IG than anything else. I don't sell anything. I just shoot for enjoyment. I get my photos seen to more people than if I posted them online or on forums.

I understand that you don't use social media, but you definitely give off a negative connotation about it. All you are doing is limiting your reach. That may or may not negatively affect you, I don't know your situation. But I would bet that you have never even looked into how it could help you. Of course, it definitely depends on if you are a working professional or hobbiest, and if you are trying to increase your exposure/sales/branding.

I just use Lightroom which isn't a simple program but has a load of automation that makes it quick and simple to use. I have Import presets that import image/rename the files etc etc. I have Develop presets that do all the adjustments I want at the press of a button and I have Publishing/Export presets that automatically post image to Instagram/Flickr etc.

Alas presets are no good for things like the tilt and shift feature as that's unique to each frame, it's OK for the filters, but that's the thing I use the least, and is the easiest in PS anyway, just desaturate etc.

No, not for business purposes, purely to jazz up family photos being put on FB but were taken on my DSLR not on my phone, so quick, easy, basic, like Instagram. Nothing remotely professional, a phone example below from yesterday, took me 20s sat on the beach on Instagram, God knows how long at home on PS...

There's a watered down version of ps for smart phones that I use constantly to enhance pics for social sites. Covers most adjustments including sharpening and a basic colour temp slider, very handy

How could I look into how it could help me if I have no idea what it is? Ditto 'twitter'. I tried Facebook, twice. For the life of me I could not find one redeeming quality in it. It is a means to deliver the masses to advertisers, much like regular 'media'. I guess I hate being thought of as a commodity. Well, that and I don't really give a hoot about seeing the minutiae of other people's lives.

I think a lot of sporting clubs use it to pass information privately thru locked groups, thus eliminating the dross that is usually posted. Has its uses but if its not for you hey ho. Bit like video on the 5Div ;-)a

As I can recall Irfanview had a whole lot of effects and plug-ins. Might be worth to have a look at it and see, if that's what you are looking for.
