Canon camera - USB cable - Macbook Pro - External Drive (possibly SSD?)

How can I maximize speed and reliability? Planning to use Capture One.

Multiple variables in the equation. More info needed.
1) What model Canon Camera? The USB interface could be any one of multiple flavors
(USB1, USB2, USB3) Speeds vary accordingly
2) What speed USB interface on the MacBook pro?
3) If you are using an external drive that introduces yet another variable. What is the
interface to the external drives

At times I use a pocket size wireless router connected by USB to my camera. The Wireless pushes a JPG image to an Android tablet so clients can see images quickly, but I can not do any editing on the tablet.

Regards,

I'm in the process of updating my gear. Computer will have USB 3 and hopefully my next camera will have it, too. Right now I'm shooting with 5D MkII that has USB 2. My current external drive is a spinning drive with USB 3.

I'd like to know what else I should be looking at once the hardware is all at USB 3 speed? I suppose shooting without a card directly to the hard drive makes it a little smoother?

The data will get written to the card then transferred to the USB port of the camera. If you do not have a card in, I don't think you will get a image transfered. I have never timed a transfer from my camera to the tablet, so I do not have a hard number. The transfer speed has not been an major issue with my shooting style. I have tethered multiple cameras to my desktop with USB 2.0, and to the tablet using Usb 2.0 and wireless.

Hope this helps,

It does not work like that with Capture One. I will bee shooting directly to the hard drive. No card in camera. It is pretty fast even with the USB 2.0 connection. I was just thinking if the USB 3 would be much better. Apparently there is not really any significant difference. I will have to wait and see.

The USB interface on the 1DX MK II is USB 3.0
As long as the device you are connected to is USB 3.0, I would call it
fast also.
USB 3.0 is approximately 10 times faster than USB 2.0.
USB 2.0 is 480 megabits per second, while USB 3.0 defines a maximum
rate of 5 gigabits per second.

I have now now tested the USB 3.0 setup as I have the laptop and a camera body that support 3.0. I did not pay for a Tether Tools cable. Just got a similar non-branded cable that seems to work well. Even though the files are larger than before, the transfer is faster. Happy with the speed. Now I just need to test if the system can do a full shoot without crashing. I have not had problems with C1 so far.
