Hey everyone! I just ordered a refurbished 5d4 from Canon. I couldn't pass up $2800!
Upgrading from the 6d, which I am about to trade for a 7d2.
I'd love to know if anyone is shooting sports or wildlife such as birds in flight and how has the 5d4 handled the fast movement?
I imagine since the sensor is similar to the 1dx2, quick moving subjects wouldn't be a challenge for the 5d4..

Thanks in advance!

I am about to place my 5D4 body order. Been reading way to much probably.
I have a question, since I am buying this strictly for the weather sealing, and the focus system is a nice benefit.

Q: Is everything about the sensor an improvement over the original 6D? Or at least nothing is worse?

Meaning noise and dynamic range at both 100 and 25600?

I am just freaked out by drastic increase in pixel density. Also read about issues with highlights.

Cameras: 5D Mark IV, EOS 3, Elan 7
Lenses:15mm 2.8 fisheye, 16-35mm 2.8L II, 24-70mm 2.8L II, 85mm 1.8, 100mm 2.8L, 70-200L II IS
Tripod: Gitzo GT2531, Arca-Swiss Z1, RRS PC-LR
Lights: Photogenic PL1250 x2, 1500SL x1, Canon 580ex, YN 568ex II

It'll be same as 5D4 from the 5D3. More base ISO dynamic range but shifted to favor shadows. Expose properly for highlights then boost shadows. Done.

WOW!

I was there 3rd week July 2015, didn't have snow like that!!! Looks like it's going to have to wait til August for hikes!

In 2015, there wasn't much snow (relatively speaking) and they got the road open on May 14th. That's, by far, the earliest opening ever. The next closest was about 6 weeks later -- June 23rd.

At this time, all the trails in the area are snow covered with a layer of slush on top during the day. That makes them very slippery. Getting shots from the parking lots or from the turnouts on the roads was easy.

I've found focusing to be very good with the 5D4; better than the 7D2. I haven't used a 6D. The 5D4 focusing is indeed very similar to my 1DX2, except that the 1DX2 shoots 14 fps (the 5D4 is 7 fps). Congratulations on your purchase! You will enjoy the new body very much.

I suppose I need to answer the question about trading my 6d away for the 7d2 or keep it for back up.
But if the 5d4 really is as good or as fast focusing like the 7d2 I suppose there is no need for it next to the 5d4.
Even with the improved pixel count, I could crop 1.6x to make up for the wildlife advantage.

I was, too. However, I've found that the IQ from the 5D4 is very close to that of my 1DX2. I never had a 6D, but I think the 1DX2 and 5D4 have improved image quality over the 6D. With both the 5D4 and 1DX2, I will shoot at ISO 25600. There is noise, but nothing that Lightroom can't clean up. Here's one example from the 5D4:

Try the 5D4 in situations where you would use a 7D2. In my own experience, the 5D4 was more than capable. I did have a 7D2 for several years before upgrading to the 5D4 and 1DX2 last year. I sold the 7D2 to help fund the others, and I haven't wanted it back. That isn't true for everyone; it's just my opinion.

I used to shoot bands in clubs at 25600 on the 6D and while the noise wasn't great, it wasn't unusable. Losing the ability to do that worries me so that is good to hear. Bigger venues and 6400 was absolutely beautiful.

I guess it's time to fill out a CPW form...
